Hi guys,

Have been doing a fair bit of research on the forum regarding wheel fitment. Big thank you to Grennan and ducker85 for their consistent input on this topic. Despite the significant amount of info on the topic, I'd like to ask for some input on my own personal circumstances.

Car: 2012 SS V Z Series VE Series II Manual MY12.5 Sportwagon

Planned suspension: King Spring 'Super Low' Coils (Front: KHFL-150SSL | Rear: KHRL-152SLHD). Bilstein B8 struts / shocks.

What am I trying to achieve?: Car is daily driven. I want it low but not ridiculous and want to maintain some ride comfort. Trying to achieve a tasteful aggressive offset / stance / staggered look (or whatever the F**K you wanna call it) without going over the top.

Couple of points:

  1. I don't like / want stretched tyres.
  2. I want a 275 tyre on the rear
  3. I don't want to roll the FRONT guards
  4. I would prefer not to roll the REAR guards but if I have to, as little as necessary
  5. open to factory adjustable -ve camber but no more
  6. I would like the wheel sitting as close to the guard as possible whilst still being 'tucked' NOT 'poked'. Would like the arch to sit level with top of tyre or preferably slightly over.

Loving the look of Tommo-27's car. Probably my favourite so far. Has good height, concave wheels and semi aggressive look without being over the top.

http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/ve-wm/253902-black-08-ssv.html

At the moment I'm thinking:

Front: 20 x 8.5 25-35+ with a 245/35 Tyre - Will the front require any modification or camber adjustments with the chosen suspension? I'm led to believe the 8.5" 25 will get it almost flush which is why I'm thinking 30 or 35 would be better to get it inside?

Rear: 20 x 10 40+ with a 275/30 Tyre - How aggressive will the guard roll need to be for this setup? Camber adjustment?

Thanks guys.

Joey.

PS - My pick for wheels atm is KOYA SF04.

Couple of things to note:
As soon as you start to lower your car, you start to decrease its some ride comfort. Just by going to 20" wheels will affect ride comfort.
You mention you want the wheel sitting as close to the guard as possible, this isn't possible without rolling the guard.
You want to only roll the guard a little bit. Its either rolled or not rolled. Its like asking for a little bit of sex. ####ed is ####ed. I had a proper panel shop roll my rear guards.
Im sure you cant run a 275 with out issues and modifications, specially if you still intend to carry load/passengers.

I know exactly what you want to achieve and I believe it will look mint. You just need to commit and go full retard.

Hey mate,

Thanks for your reply. I am currently running 20" HSVi Sabres on the car which came from factory so I am used to what they ride like and am still happy with it. It currently has pedders lowered coils on standard struts/shocks so the Bilsteins have to be an improvement on what it currently is even if the coils I plan to put in are a little lower.

You mention you want the wheel sitting as close to the guard as possible, this isn't possible without rolling the guard.

As I've continued my research, I've very much come to this realisation and I don't have a problem doing it.

You want to only roll the guard a little bit. Its either rolled or not rolled. Its like asking for a little bit of sex. ####ed is ####ed.

Haha. This made me laugh and fair enough too. I was more referring to 'pumping' the guards or any form of aggressive rolling requiring cutting etc. If it's just a basic roll that a lot of people have done with little risk of damaging the bodywork then I am ok with it.

Im sure you cant run a 275 with out issues and modifications, specially if you still intend to carry load/passengers.

Are you sure about this? HSV run a factor 275/30 tyre and I am not proposing to change this aspect, only the offset which I understand will require the guard roll which I've since come to accept.

I know exactly what you want to achieve and I believe it will look mint. You just need to commit and go full retard.

Just want to do it right the first time round.

Just discovered the Vossen VFS-1 which I really don't mind either. Just not sure it's as aggressive or concave as the Koya's. However they do look rather painless to fit requiring just the guard roll. Like the way the Vossen's tuck.

Front 20x9 with +35 offset & 255/35R20 tyres
Rear 20x10 with +45 offset & 275/35R20 tyres

with regard to the 275's all I know is a mate I race with runs 275's and he used to all ways rub till he rolled the guards.

I run a 305, but thats a totally different story :)

Cool thanks. I've accepted the fact I'll be rolling the guards if going a 275 rear tyre with a wheel less than 48+ offset.

I had those King springs and I think you'll be happy with the ride heigt.

The HSV Pentagons are 20x8.5 35P 245/35. So going a 8.5 20P in the front should be fine, the max front camber is neg 2 degrees.

Those rears tho will poke 23mm more then the HSV 9.5s and with a 275 will poke more then my rear set up which required a guard roll.

The Vossen 20x10 45P is the best fittng rear you've listed so far but it still might rub, you'd have to test fit them and get a roll later IF they did rub.

I like the KOYA SF04, obviously they do fit so if your buying from one the the shops whose pictures you linked get them to make them fit.

Well not necessarily. I spoke with stylish wheels regarding the fitment on the three HSV's I've pictured and been told the specs are as follows:

20x10 +30
20x11 +43

They also tell me that HSV guards are slightly more pumped which I did not know! I'm not willing to pump guards.

I also didn't want to put 10's on the front if I can avoid it because I've heard it tracks badly?

I have never heard that HSVs are wider then Holden before. The HSV Pentagons will poke more then the Holden wheels and the rear poke an extra 10mm.

If you ran a 255 on a 10" rim up front it'll track fine. I think it's only with 275 and wider tyre that people complain but it's a by product of having more grip.

Your HSVi Sabers should be 8" by 48P so jack you car up by the diff or front cross member and with a second jack rise one wheel up until it's apart to lift the car and measure your guard to wheel gap with a ruler. Then you'll know how much extra poke you can have before having issues and avoiding a roll. Using the willtheyfit.com calculator you can check the new wheel specs for how they'll fit.

I should have taken these measurements before my guard roll and neg camber alignment on the front.

I have a friend with the sfo4 koya wheels and he has had problems running a ssl spring with rolled guards and 245s stretched all around. He has the deep concave with +32 . From what ive seen the best offset for the koyas with the deep concave is with the 20x11 option.

I have vertini dynastys 275s on the rear with a +40 offset and the guards rolled and dont have issues with scrubbing.
