Getting my car ready to race at the Holden Nationals and thought I'd take advantage of having wheels around the house and weigh them.

Only used bathroom scales, so please use as an indication only. All tyres brand new and full tread depth.

VF SS 19" Factory rim with Bridgestone 245/40R19 = 25.0kg
HF20i Option wheel with Bridgestone 245/35R20 = 25.0kg
Racestar 18 x 5 rim with Mickey Thompson 26 x 6 R18 Sportsman Pro = 16.5kg
Koyo Forged 18 x 10 rim with Mickey Thompson 285/40R18 Drag Radial = 22.5kg

We can assume the 275/30R20 rears would be a little heavier than 25.0kg and I will confirm their weight when I get one off the car in the coming week or so.

Interesting was the fronts being 8.5kg each (17kg total) lighter. In a back to back test on a mustang in the USA they went 0.09sec faster to 1/8th mile with the lighter and skinnier (less rolling resistance) front tyres.

Check this out for a read. http://www.dragzine.com/tech-storie...ootout-18x9-5-versus-18x4-5-at-the-dragstrip/ Their front weight saving was also around 17kg. :)

In theory, a half track improvement of 0.09sec should be around 0.15 at the 1/4 mile!

I haven't raced the car yet in either configuration, but something interesting to think about!

Brembo's are unfortunately a compromise to look good when you want to go fast as there are many more tyre options for the front and rear with 17" rims. I think I could have squeezed 17's on the rear, but couldn't get the offset I wanted. Custom 18's were the way to go so I could get them to fit properly without rolling or trimming the gaurds.

The rear tyre options are much better in 17's and the thicker sidewall would give more rubber on the track on launch.

I can lose a couple of kg by not eating lunch! :)

Also worth noting that Brembos and heavier larger rotors can add at least a couple of kilo per corner.

What offset are you running on the Koya 18"x10"?

18 x 10 with +57, but that will ONLY work with the 285/40R18 Mickey Thompsons as they're a true 285mm section width. I cannot confirm fitment of any other tyre. These have 5mm clearance on the inside, and sit under the guards

Rims as per the pics.

Like I said bathroom scales. So the number is reference only. Not calibrated.

I'd say the difference is scale accuracy, both numbers probably the same.

Tyre weight could also be 1kg+ difference!
