Just drove 4000kms around Canada USA and loved it.

speed limit might be 100 but most doing 120 and hardly any cops at all, only noticed redlight cameras in major cities and a few fixed units.

turn right on red at lights was awesome and no roundabouts to be seen.

30km/h limits in some Canadian cities suburbs only down side

Euthanasia, that is the new punishment in Vic for when you break the 10km speed limit.

You left out the content I underlined, which was the $17.9 million dollar cost....to replace 50km/h street signs with 40km/h street signs

When I first read that, I wondered how they could spend that sort of money on a few street signs. How !!!!!

from the link:
But regardless of what happens at state level, the council will push ahead to drop all of its roads in built-up areas to 40km/h. The proposal has a price tag of $17.9 million.

Who lobbied for this shyte?
This is what happens when politicians and bureaucrats are put in charge of spending other peoples money..

.

This is what happens when left wing socialist green nutcases are put into positions of power. They are hell bent on pushing their twisted ideologies and agendas onto normal everyday people and refuse to accept anyone elses views or opinions unless they align with their own.

Some other examples of this include the councils which are pushing gay marriage and lobbying for the date of Australia day to be changed. Absolutely nothing to do with council matters whatsoever, yet they think they have the god given right to spend ratepayers money on social engineering and pushing their idiotic agendas.

People need to wake up and stop voting these nutters in.

The way speed zones are set up means there can be a huge need for signage. Each sign is about $300 to buy and install. It can add up but it must be a verrry big area for $17 million. Put into perspective, 12.5km of arterial Road our council built cost $12 million.

There are studies around that suggest that if traffic is kept to 40 pedestrian fatalities can be just about eliminated. But you have the obvious trade off of driver annoyance and mildly increased travel times.

Welcome to the new Australia....the 'nanny-police state', where citizens aren't aloud the freedom to use common sense.

When they force us all onto digital money and abolish cash, bankers and govco will be able to monitor and profile every aspect of our lives.
How much you spend, where you spend it and what you spend it on..
Add in more CCTV cameras everywhere with facial recognition software installed, full body scanners, cop cars already have number plate recognition equipment that can check you on the fly, fixed camera plate recognition....

The nanny-police state, coming to a street near you!

It's bulls-hit, bros

I guess I could say the same about councils pushing religion via christmas parades and carols by candlelight.
All the councils push this rubbish.... every year.

ps
The date of Australia day should be changed to show respect for our indigenous people, who inhabited this land for more than 40,000 years before the British monarchy invaded and took over. ...(and no, I'm not suggesting we turn back time and all live in grass huts, ffs)
And it's about time we got rid of the flucking Union Jack from our flag
:)

I don't understand why people say Australia Day should be moved from 26 January, does this date have some relevant meaning to the indigenous population? How is it different to having the celebration on the 2 February. Still celebrating the same thing.

The claim is that it represents the invasion.

I agree, however, that changing the date wont change this view. As such, the same claims will remain.
