i have a VE 07 SV6. would like to see what the car will actually do on a track. in Melbourne. we have Calder raceway and sandown race track. but not sure if they will allow the car be tested there. its fine with me to allow a professional drive to test the car. i would feel more comfortable with this as there used to high speed driving. anyone in Melbourne had there car tested for its top speed. i get 2 stories about SV6 top speed and am just wanting to confirm what is right. am not worried on the cost its more just curiosity

many thanks to all the members.

If you want to test top speed I'd suggest probably a dyno, not many tracks would have enough space for a car to max out, and it's probably safer

a dyno isnt a true top speed is it... hard to calculate wind resistance

yep a dyno is the place......or some very long straight quiet country road that is in very good condition.........obviously it will be a privete road.....

Care to share where such a road would be??? Google maps would be fine :)

Yeah I also would like to see who would build a few kilometres of bitumen, 'privately'.

umm.... a quick answer to your question..... no.

you wont get anyone sane to test the car's "top speed" even on a closed circuit, because if the SV6 is completely stock it would be incredibly dangerous to do so.
stock suspension is designed to be comfortable at low speeds, not stable at high speeds.
stock wheels are designed to be comfortable and cheap, not stable at high speeds.
stock body shape is not designed for high speed stability.
well before the car reaches it's top speed you'll lose stability.
and there isnt a race track in the country that has a straight long enough to allow a stock SV6 to hit it's top speed. not even close.

the only real way you are going to get a top speed, is to get on a dyno to max it out and then do the necessary physics calculations to allow for wind resistance, friction, traction loss, etc.

quite simply, a stock SV6 will never achieve it's 'top speed' in real life.
not on the salt flats of utah, and certainly not on any race track in Victoria.
you can try your luck (and the luck of innocent road users) by driving across the nullarbor... but again, the lack of traction and stablility will catch up to you.

find a nice long strip of free way very early in the morning and just hit it. Cops wont chase you after 180kmh becasue their cars are stock, cant catch you so they wont chase you.
