I read a couple of his books - he had a gift for our language.
But I noticed that his story changed over the years -
in his first book, he admitted one killing (for which he was tried & acquitted), but by this week, the count was up to nineteen.

I also like the work of Heath FRANKLIN, who Chopper described -
"He's doing his own interpretation of Eric BANA, doing Eric BANA's interpretation of me."

I think he was a great story teller, and Aussies have a fascination with that type of anti authority figure which is why every kid can tell you who Ned Kelly was but few have heard of Edmund Barton.

My perception of peoples reaction to his death is that people identify with the character of "Chopper" that mark read has created through his books and movie. He freely admits he's taken liberties with the truth and I think it's important to remember that the chopper that the public knows is only loosely based on the real person.
