Ok Im toying with the idea of putting a 4 barrel on my 5ltr VT due to constant problems with the injection..I have noticed there are 5 manifolds out there in the market place that are low enough to run in the car with a air filter...I just would like to know if anyone has tried these and which one is the better buy...The car is running a standard cam at present so Im not looking at high end performance just suitable for a daily driver with extractors and exhaust..

Id prefer a duel plane manifold due to the fact its not going to be a racer..

Harrop Duel plane...
C.O.M.E.... Single 4 Barrel VN intake..(worried this is a bit high)
Hardiman/Redline.... Hi-Winder
Torque Power......TP002 or TP005

Cheers Mark:hmmm:

Do you mean a 4 barrel 1000cfm TB or a 4 barrel carby?

The later is illegal and wont pass roadworthy.

Personally I'd go with a Torque power single plane manifold.

torque power single plain manifold on a stock cammed 304?? surely thats a bit overkill.

tp high rise dual plane gets my vote.

I know of a couple people running the single planes on a stock + bolt on mods. Still pulling 150kw give or take. Drive fine, still feel fairly lively. Not that a stocker 5ltr is every really anything to write home about.

No, well that's completely true.
Which is why I added they felt pretty good down low too. I've never felt overly inspired by a 5ltrs bottom end torque ever, so perhaps its all down to personal preferance?

That said, OP - dual plane is certainly a safe bet.

EDIT:
On second thought, I know at least one of them had a different cam, but certainly standard compression.

It's well known that single plains aren't a low down type manifold on any engine. Dual plains will ALWAYS make better low down torque & power.

No point having good top end power with little to no torque down low....After all we are talking about a street engine/daily driver.

By the time the single plain gets to where it makes good power, the stock cam will be well out of puff.

Dual plain on a stocker ftw.

I'm not arguing the function at all :p. You're totally correct in what you're saying. Just in my experience with them they're pretty good.
