Hi all just wondering what peoples thoughts are on which v6 motor is the safest to bolt a turbo up to with standard internals? im looking at vn to vs motors as they are the cheapest. basically im building a budget burnout car with mostly bits and pieces i have layin around and using a ke70 corolla shell. a mate and i have recently done a vs v6 conversion to his ke70 and all i can say is, wow! its one interesting ride, so naturally i would like to go one step further than him and build a turbo'd version. the conversion itself is easy enough to do as he runs his own exhaust shop and we do a lot of our own fabrication there so that side of things wont be an issue. im interested to know what peoples thoughts on the various engine internal strength is as ive heard a couple of conflicting stories, bearing in mind the fuel system will be upgraded and i will be running twin s15 200sx turbos (as i already have them from a twin turbo lexus v8 i had). im expecting that ill only run 7 to about 10psi so its not going to be an extremly high boost application and essentially the car is going to be built as a budget promotional car for the business. another quick question is about the autos that sit behind them, are they relativley tough or will i break it? is it worth manualising the trans so i can pull top gear or should i use a manual donor car? thanks in advance.
best is really the ecotec much better ve and all that with sort of 4 bolt mains and they respond well to turbo's. Auto's will need to be built tough to cope with power of over 200rwkw (a shift kit and the like in a good nic box should hold up for a while) manuals will start to let got at about the same power (250rwkw would be max on a manual) so imo auto would be the go. If your staying with stock ecu's i'd run a map delco 808 with th700 box saves screwing with electric ones though if you get a whole motor trans loom and ecu (vs-vy ecotec) you can stay down that path it'll work out very similar.
thanks for the advice, im just going to pick up a donor car from the auctions so ill see what comes up for a good price (vs onwards) cheers.
