the little light on the dash in Dad's stato comes on to say a light is blown.

Conditions: headlights must be on for this to occur

BUT it goes away when you brake.

Take your foot off the brake and a second later it's back again :(

none of the taillights seem to be blown so I don't know what's going on there.

Is this a common problem with these? I don't even know where to look :(

do you have led bulbs in tail lights? or special bulbs of some description?

i'll look into it hang on

wiring diagram from gregorys wh2
http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...en-asked-picture108695-wh2brakefaillight.html

1: check hand brake light goes out?
2: check brake lights all work!~ including high mount or if any unplugged plug in (done sometime for spoiler)
3: check brake fail warning switch (for master cylinder)

brake fail master switch is the one in the metal under your brake fluid resevoir

hope this helps...but it didnt
beacause its not (p) warning on dash its the display one!~
will kepp in mind next time that tailights are on the display check circuit

Also check the number plate lights and remember that there are 2 brake/tail light globes on each side. The fact that the warning light goes off when braking indicates that it is not a brake light problem.

As accentstencil has indicated, possibly a numberplate light, and when it goes out when brake is applied, it indicates the brake lights are not the problem. I'd try checking all taillight connections to see if there's extra build up on the terminals.

just checked this out properly... took tail lights out of car and visually inspected everything

I hadn't even realised there were meant to be two globes per side.

There was one blown on the right hand side, and one on the left had a smashed housing so going to pick up a new loom for the LHS today hopefully, in between getting my LS1VN ready to drive 4000km lol
