Hi guys,

Quick question, I have a 2004 VZ SV6 commodore that is making a whining / squeaking noise when I turn off the engine and sometimes when driving at low speeds. It sounds like a belt of some sorts but i'm unsure.

I've spoken to Holden about it and the problem never seems to happen when they test it.

I don't know whether its a belt, the transmission or even possibly my steering rack as I was told that there was a slight weep.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Cameron

Hi Cameron. While it's idling and making the noise, I'd pour a bit of water onto the belt and see if it changes. That would rule out your belt. Mine used to slip and make horrible noises when it was wet.

Hi Silverbird,

I don't believe the sound occurs when it's idling, only when turning the engine off. I'll upload a video of it to Youtube.

Regards,
Cam

It's probably something very simple.

It sounds a lot louder when inside the car.

It only started after a mate decided to use degreaser on pretty much the entire engine bay after servicing.

Thanks for the effort to upload the video. Hmmmm... I'll go and have a listen to mine and let you know if mine does it.
