I know that Holden power steering pumps while when the fluid level drops, but my son's Acclaim is making a racket with a full reservour. There are no oil leaks in the steering that I can see. The car is an Alloytech with 166k on the clock.

Has anybody experienced this before and is the cure a replacement pump?

I have a VT and the power steering has also started to whine. It isn't horrid but it didn't do it before.

is the p/s fluid gettin aerated?

Hi Andy

Yeah, I think it might be. When I first checked the level last week, the fluid was definitely aerated and I can imagine that will be related to the problem. I just can't think what could be causing the aeration.

Yeah, the sound is definitely sourcing from the pump area. I drove it today with the air off and after about half an hour, when I came to a stop and had to reverse, it was very noisy and only varied slightly with changes in engine speed.

Theres a how-to on the other commodore forum about whining power steering, might be worth checking it out.
