Hey everyone I've just installed a t4 turbo on my 5.7 gen 3 sv8. It hasn't been tuned and wont run with the 2 bar map sensor but I've had it running so I could hear the exhaust note while I was customising the turbo back exhaust. I have finished all the fabrication work and still need things done like injectors, fuel pump and a tune. I notice when revving it , the car puffs mass clouds of white smoke. My first thoughts are oh no I hope my brand new turbo has not done its seals.. It cant be an internal engine problem as it was running fine before I started all the work so i doubt it stuffed itself while sitting dormant.. My next question is, is there a certain way that the oil feed and return lines have to go? if they are the wrong way around would the oil be leaking through somehow? and also when i bought the oil feed lines I noticed there were a few options to choose from for the restrictor flange which bolts to the turbo for oil feed.. I've got a braided line that goes to a flange with a 1/8th hole which then feeds the turbo.. If this hole was too big would it cause way too much oil feed into the turbo and dumping it into the exhaust?

Or do I just put it all down to it not having a tune and still running a 1 bar map sensor? I would have thought it would be black smoke though? I want to try and fix this problem before installing the final parts and sending it off for tuning only to find that the turbo is screwed or something like that..

What can I check for to make sure?

If you look in the photos the infeed is on the right side with the flange that has the 1/8th hole.. the other options of flanges had holes down to 1mm in diameter.. should I try that.. how do you know how much oil the turbo needs? its just a small film of oil for the impeller to run on isn't it?

Will post pics up shortly

Does it smell like oil being burn?

I'd put my money on the turbo seals being munted.
It could also be a bad PCV.

checking the exhaust there is already a thin film of oil in there.. so there is definetly oil leaking into the exhaust. What I need to know is are the seals stuffed or is it the seals job to dump oil into the exhaust when there is too much? Im trying to pin it on the restrictor flange.. haha.. Or do the seals keep oil from passing through no matter how much there is and however much pressure it comes through?

If the seals were stuffed would there be oil in the intake pipes as well? Im just finding it hard to believe that a brand new turbo can have stuffed seals already.. its already past its warranty as i've been working on this project for over a year now..

whats a pcv and where do i check it?

you need the oil feed at the top of the turbo and drain at the bottom and no more than 2-5 degrees off centre angle on the centre housing and an 18mm drain pipe minimum or it will just pump oil into the exhaust or front cover

thanks for your post. That makes sense.. I will have to double check mounting because i think mine are horizontal eachother.. would that matter? or one definetly has to be higher? And any ideas as to the infeed restrictor flange? can i restrict the oil right down to say a 1mm diameter hole?

sideways is not doable or it will leak like a siv into the exhaust it MUST be oil feed directly above the drain and at least a 19mm inside diameter drain hose

thats the last thing I wanted to hear.. theres no way I can get around it? I'd hate to chop & change unless need be.. Obviously my mistake having no mechanical knowledge. I made the manifolds, I watercut the flanges and used schedule pipe construct them.. Being a sheet metal worker and a mechanical draftsman has its advantages..

loosen the 4 bolts holding the rear housing to the centre of the turboand do the same to the 8 round the inlet and just turn the centre around untill its up and down not sideways
