Hey everyone I've just installed a t4 turbo on my 5.7 gen 3 sv8. It hasn't been tuned and wont run with the 2 bar map sensor but I've had it running so I could hear the exhaust note while I was customising the turbo back exhaust. I have finished all the fabrication work and still need things done like injectors, fuel pump and a tune. I notice when revving it , the car puffs mass clouds of white smoke. My first thoughts are oh no I hope my brand new turbo has not done its seals.. It cant be an internal engine problem as it was running fine before I started all the work so i doubt it stuffed itself while sitting dormant.. My next question is, is there a certain way that the oil feed and return lines have to go? if they are the wrong way around would the oil be leaking through somehow? and also when i bought the oil feed lines I noticed there were a few options to choose from for the restrictor flange which bolts to the turbo for oil feed.. I've got a braided line that goes to a flange with a 1/8th hole which then feeds the turbo.. If this hole was too big would it cause way too much oil feed into the turbo and dumping it into the exhaust?
Or do I just put it all down to it not having a tune and still running a 1 bar map sensor? I would have thought it would be black smoke though? I want to try and fix this problem before installing the final parts and sending it off for tuning only to find that the turbo is screwed or something like that..
What can I check for to make sure?
If you look in the photos the infeed is on the right side with the flange that has the 1/8th hole.. the other options of flanges had holes down to 1mm in diameter.. should I try that.. how do you know how much oil the turbo needs? its just a small film of oil for the impeller to run on isn't it?
Will post pics up shortly
