Paid for my first car.... 1983 Nissan Bluebird (the first of the nissans, before this year they were Datsun's) for $50. Lady i bought it off bought a brand new car and just wanted it gone. reco gearbox (5spd), new clutch and minimal kms. spent $1000 on it on the road.. it ended up crushed by the next owner, she wrote it off such a great car.
I payed 3300 for my VS about 3 months ago.Was originally gonna buy a pos 323 for 2500 just as a run around but mumu and dad said I needed somethign with duel airbags. They offered a couple of grand if needed but i found the VS and I had i enough so I didn't need it. Im one of the only one of my mates who paid for my own car. I don't go around bragging about it, yeah it makes me feel good but I don't give people who get their cars given to them **** about it. Sure some of them keep their cars is horid condition but I've seen people do the same to cars they buy. I don't care if parents want to buy cars for their kids or if they don't, whether or not the kids flogs the **** out of their car comes down to how they are brought up not how they got their car.
95 VS Commy, 85,000 kms, 6 seater with column shift. just got my P's. Bought it on finance for $10,500. Smashed it 2 months later, 4 days before i got Married!! One of the PERKS of DUI!!! Wore a neck brace to my wedding. MRS wasn't happy!
Worked 70 hours a week for 4 months over summer to save up for my VS and my stereo system. Buy your own first car, my policy.

Bought my first car around 6 months ago. $10,000 for a VX S pack 5 speed manual. Earned it by workin for over a year washing dishes. Proud of myself Love it.
the rents gave me my 1st car which i thought was great, small 87 mazda 626, did an awesome job until i wrote it off one christmas eve, could have been worse though
fantastic english skills bro, I've had my license 9 months and ive had 4 cars im not proud of that tho
I have been savings for a long while, working as much as i can and spending my holidays working labor as I'm currently still at school. I was aiming at saving up 3 grand and buying a nice vn, but my dad bought a vy for 6 grand, and said as soon as i get my P's i can have it, I'm giving him the 3 grand i saved and am going to gradually pay him of the rest. So many kids i know, have been given 20,000 cars for doing piss all, they don't respect it at all. It annoys me as i spend a heaps of time and all my holidays busting my ass working 10 hour days trying to save up to pay my dad back, while all these other kids at my school have their afternoon and holidays to do whatever they want and have all the time in the world, they don't even have to lift a bloody finger! And also while they role around in cars three times the value of mine. It just doesn't seem right or fair for that matter.
The value of a car means nothing to me, if it did, I wouldnt have bought a VN. In saying that, my VN which Ive spent countless hours working on, means more to me than some new plastic fantastic car with a large price tag, because it has character. I have a great understanding for VN's and wouldnt trade it for anything else! Once Im off my P's it will get a motor upgrade but for now its a great car to tinker with with enough power to have in. If I ever crash it, whats left of the car will be transferred into another rolling shell. Thats how much I love them! They might have new expensive cars, but I have my pride, and a love for older cars.
to me, my current car (VX commodore) was just that, a car, until i started pulling it apart when things broke (drove up and down a dirt road 60km everyday for approx 5 years). then it became MY car. spending time working on a car makes it a piece of you. i spent probably 100 hours fixing my bluebird (first car relating to my first post in this thread) and thats exactly why i loved it. Sure, purchasing a new car is great, but IMHO i dont believe you get the satisfaction of knowing it inside and out.
i got £1000 ($2,006) from my nan when i was 17 and used £560 ($1,123) to buy a 1974 Ford mk3 Cortina 1.6 xl. it was in great working condition but as i was working in a classic car garage at the time, i gave it an ace full body restoration and engine recondition.
not trying to sound rude here but its amazing how many foreign people are on this forum its good to see people around the world enjoying something we make here in oz
I paid for my first car which was a (hate to admit it on this site especially) Ford Telstar TX5for $2,500. I had my licence and my very own car on the first day of Grade 12 at high school, which my mates were quite jealous. (eg. Car+Licence=Driving a carfull of chicks around!) None of my mates could ever afford to get a car, and wondered how I could ever afford it. I have never drank or smoked, and all my spare money was put into my car.
Nice choice of first car. Do you still have it? im pretty sure if still in good condition it would be worth considerably more than your purchase cost
