VX Executive Series II
first car was a $500 suzuki carry which my parents bought me....it wasn't even road worthy so it sat in the back yard for ages and finally got sent to car heaven. I bought my next car (Holden Apollo JP 4 cylinder) which was a really nice first car although a little skitzo with thin stock tyres and front wheel drive designed to turn before you did...it ended up written off one rainy day in may and i bought my VX which i've had ever since :)

It really comes down to values. Do you give your kids free food or do you make them pay for it to "appreciate it" or deserve it?. Hell, send them down the mines when they are fourteen, then they'll really understand food doesnt grow on trees.......or perhaps it does.

If you cant give your own kids the best you can afford, who else is it worth spending on? Parents can choose to be "cheap" in other areas, not give their kids a plasma each......but where their very survival and safety is concerned why not give them the best one can afford.

It is not only values that are the main thing, there's also a lenience to see whether or not if kids do understand.. If they don't they will abuse it because they know they can get a new one, all they need to do is beg from you.

Sure you can keep giving them new ones, but when will they ever learn the value of appreciation? Successful people don't always give their kids everything to ensure that the wealth stays within the family or else the future generations may have no wealth to spend on.

I've EARNT and paid for all my cars. Would never expect mum to pay for my car, she has lent me money for parts that I desperatly needed, but thats as far as it goes and I still feel bad asking her for money.

What I cant stand is little rich boys knocking my car when their parents bought them a brand new car, but I do laugh when they write it off in a couple of weeks. They dont EARN it, so they have no respect for it.
I got in a heated argument with my ex's family as they were talking about their family friends who I also know. When they said the kid got a brand new sports BMW for his 18th, I expressed my opinion but tryed to shut me down saying he saved his own money for the car. Yeah right, he didnt saved 80 grand for the car, his parents gave him the money which he chose to spend on poofter car. But because his parents gave him the money then he spent it, they dont see it as his parents bought him a car WTF. sorry rant over.

Well said mate, I agree with you 100% there. I come from a rather unfortunate background (no details) but I know what it means to work for something with your own blood sweat and tears. My first car was a 1987 Vl Commodore which I bought myself, 2nd was VS S S2 ute which again, I bought myself, and now I own a VZ SV6 05', also, bought myself.

I have a lot of respect for my missus though, although she had it easy, and her folks bought her first car for her, she INSISTED she pay it back and has, paid back the full value of the car. Her folks are well off and it wouldn't have been an issue for her not to, but it was a matter of principle.

Mate, its not a puppy dog, its a car. The cost of cars to some is small change.......wear em out, buy a new one......kid loses it.......buy them a new one. Yeh, some of us have to take care of them to make them last for reasons of financial survival....that's tough......not a good reason to condemn those that can afford them.
Again, do you make your kids go and get a job and pay for their food, so they wont throw bits of it away.....its all relative.

Of course if you have some evidence that these "spoilt brats" make the roads unsafe because they have "no respect" then bring it on, there is possibly some truth in it. Yet, Ive seen plenty of hoons that have paid for every cent of their car cause a bit of mischief too!

Yeh, i think its the standard issue pads, the bosses 7 series is horrendous for it. Wonder if it has much to do with warmer drier temps over here so the pad compounds arent as suited to Australian conditions?

The problem isn't related solely to Beemers. Any late Astra and most Euro's have the same problem. It's brought about by the very soft (but grabby) pad material, combined with soft discs, which are used to ensure good braking performance. That's why Euro's tend to need new rotors much faster than local or Jap cars.

My first car was an FB, purchased for $200 in 1970. Saved for ten months to get that much together, as my pay was about $60 in the hand per fortnight. Lasted eleven months until I discovered some nasty corrosiion in the front chassis below the battery cradle. Trade in time.

very well said. Perhaps these people who are jealous of parents buying their children cars will have their kids pay for school so they appreciate it to? Maybe pay for the christmas presents also? Don't forget to make them pay for that holiday too.

For me, a car is a car, I keep it nice for a bit, then don't really car how it looks. Atm its sitting in the shed with a ****load of dead bugs, mud, dirt and black carbon wheels. This tells me it's time for a new car because I have stopped caring about this one :p
