Same engine, heavier car....why does the VE feel so much more responsive?

the ve has 210kw's(i believe) and the vz has either 175 or 190kw.. depending on model. so its just further development have made them a bit quicker

i new the sidi's were 210... not sure about the earlier ve alloytech's.

my point was the ve's have more power then vz's cause of development...

I believe that the VZ Alloytech put out 190KW in the SV6, whereas the VE Alloytech was 195KW pre the SIDI.

However, the biggest difference appears to be torque delivery. Both engines had the same 340 NM, but the VE figure was at 2,600 rpm versus 3,200 in the VZ, i.e. higher torque at lower rpm for the VE.

    The VZ has 175KW @6000RPM and 320Nm @ 2400RPM
    The VE has 175KW @6500RPM and 325Nm @ 2800RPM

so they are very similar statistically, but the VE feels like it has heaps more go than the VZ, despite it being 145KG heavier.

VZ V6 '04/'05 models excutive, acclaim and berlina 175kw. '06 172kw=loss of 3kw because of emissions regs i think. I carn't remember about SV6 and Calais (190kw) engine if it changed power figures. We have a 04 VZ acclaim and a 08 VE lumina in the family, and the VE fells alot more responsive than the VZ alot more than the claimed 10kw or so difference (VE 185kw i think?).
    Cheers.

The torque/power curves are marginally improved in the 195kw, transmisson and the gearbox are also better and the car gets better traction off the line with IRS and a decent suspension. It also has slightly better diff gears 2.83 vs 2.93? (not sure if thats exact), theres some other differences to do with cam phasing etc

Are they both high output/low output engines and do they have the same gearbox? A 4 speed VZ with single Variable cam phasing would get smashed by a 5 speed VE with intake and exhaust variable cams regardless of the extra weight
