Why do so many people go to the LS1 engines? For example instead of the 5L?

Ls1 is common as, most of the ls series parts will fit it, and it's a good engine

Lighter, more power standard, easier and cheaper to get more power out of. More aftermarket parts available. The list goes on. The 5ltr has a strong following, its a good engine, but lacks the technology of the LS series.

304's make very little power even when massive dollars are thrown at them...

Depends which one. The one in the VT started at 220kw and the one in the VY clubbies was 285.

    a stock 5L....Not much.

Around 165kw at the fly I think unless its a HSV motor

A stock LS1 around 220KW at the fly (also higher if HSV motor)

Why would you wast money upgrading to a 5L V8, when you can upgrade to a decent 5.7L V8?
The only thing the 5L has over the Ls1 is the sound (everybody has there own opinion on this).

ROFL! Where did you pull that number from??? lol.

5L VT SS was 179fwkw so are you suggesting they put a newere, higher capacity engine in and got less power?

I've got a head and cam ls1 and a built 304. Both make around the same power. Ls1 is quicker but I like driving the 5oh better.

You've had to spend more money on the 5 to make it about the same power as the LS1 hey?

Yeah I did. But like I said I prefer to drive it. The 304 is my weekender.

People get caught up in the ls1 makes more power for less crap. If you spent on a 304 what it would cost to do a conversion, the 304 will smash the ls1.

I guess it's all down to what you like at the end of the day. Although I don't see many 5L's driving around.
