I'd have a ute in a heartbeat if I had no family. There's just something about the utes that oozes toughness. And, as many have pointed out, they have practical purposes for them. And lastly, the ute is just an out and out aussie icon. No other country does the ute like Australia, well Holden anyway.

Z Series Thunder Utility - Turbo
Ok... from a wagon lover :axe:.

1) Utes are heavier.
2) Utes are less aerodynamic and therefore use more fuel.
3) Utes are less secure carrying stuff.
4) Utes wont protect your stuff from the elements.
5) Utes are no good if you have kids, or in-laws, or more than one friend in addition to the mrs.
6) Utes wont accomodate a subwoofer (fully sick).
7) Utes don't look anywhere near as good as a wagon does.

1. Its not 400kg
2. If I cared about fuel I'd drive a Hyundai
3. Lockable hardcover?
4. Lockable hardcover?
5. Utes are fantastic as I never have to deal with carrying kids, in-laws or friends.
6. Soundstream competition sub in my utility says LIES.
7. I see the wagon as a car for people who own 8 kids, are a rep for a business, or old people.

The end.

don't have kids,i own my trade business, and im 34 :), having had a ve ute and now a wagon i now prefer the wagon for a couple of reasons for eg. sa rego & insurance is cheaper, i can fit just about the same amount of **** in it, and the dog can stay in the back without stuffing the seats(the ute had hardlid so dog was no go).

The weight of a ute compared to a sedan/wagon is dependant on a couple of other factors. Which applies to all realy.

1. Whether V8 or V6 engine
2. Manual or Auto trans
3. Size of wheels (17, 18, 19, 20, 22)

I'd love a ute for work purposes, but it'd need bars above the cabin for moving bulky stuff and landscaping. I'd want a colorado or something like that. If I had a nice SS I'd be too afraid of scuffing up the paint!
