Sorry if this has already been posted, but why did they choose to call the new car a "VE"? If you look at the name sequence of Commmodores that has taken place, there aren't many letter codes left beginning with a "V". I would have thought with a "totally new car" they would have begun a new sequence with the coding, e.g. TA or something. Any ideas?

It's mostly due to the fact that commodores have always been V*

Also, what your saying is that a vn should have been called something different since it was a 'totally new car' over the vb-vl chassis, or a vt called a KT or something......

What I'm saying is that there are few options left for subsequent models - VF okay, VG (I think one of the utes was a VG), VH - no, VI maybe etc

commodore has been the most successful aussie car for some time. the golden rule is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

this is why mitsubishi went away from the Magna name. the same (but opposite) reason Holden have stuck with commodore name, model designations, styling (the VE is different but not radically different), etc.
