Ve 2 Calais 6.0
Hey everyone. I know there are 1,000,000 threads relating to droning from aftermarket exhausts put on vehicles with AFM active. I have a VE series 2 Calais wagon and obviously would like my V8 to sound like an actual V8 should, but without the horrible droning noise.

Does anyone have any advice on a 2 1/4 inch system? I have been told by an exhaust fitter that he can manufacture a 2 1/4 inch cat back which will drone less than a 2 1/2 inch. Obviously less noise but better than stock.

Any advice would be awesome.

Thank you.

Factory cat back is 2 1/4". How much 'better than stock' will it be?

try your stock rear mufflers on the 2.5" system, if they fit up will fix the drone

1 7/8" headers and 3" full stainless on my E3 clubsport droned until I got the bi modal tips cut from the original mufflers and welded to the new mufflers and the drone is almost completely gone.

However, a Varex muffler has the same effect I was told, only you decide when it's open or closed, rather than the car. Quiet when you need it, loud when you want it.

If you get a decent quality 2.5 inch system (not x force) you shouldn’t have issues with drone

I'm with vr304.
A good build with quality mufflers will be near quiet on 100kph cruise control, sound nice at normal accrl, and Roar at W.O.T
Build it right and it will do what you need and more

I seem to remember Reapers E3 (was cammed, and unsure if it had extractors) was a changed mid section to possibly 2 1/2 with the stock rears.
Sounded great when it was driven, yet could be almost dead quiet to pass through any booze bus.
