Hehehehehe, his cardiac specialist has been on me for years to get him to retire!
When he told me he couldn't lift the barge anymore, I told him to put it away, and to use the Redline.

Some how, I don't think he misses the bike too much...

THANK YOU ALL for the most entertaining thread I've ever read! It was like reading a great novel that you can't put down! (crap I'm late for work now).

My thoughts on all of this:

I love my VF! It does every thing I need.
It still has no rattles or squeaks (2013 model), although it's only done 60,000 kMs.

I usually keep my cars for a long time i.e. more than 10 years.

I had my LJ torana for 30 years until some numb-nuts stoved in the back of it. (I stupidly stopped at a stop sign!)

When I bought the VF ute the other car I was considering was an EH ute for about the same money!

The only car I've ever owned that wasn't a Holden was, surprisingly, a Hyundai! It was an FX coupe which was a great car, Just lacking in the power department.

Please keep up the entertaining posts!

    Who designed the Stinger?
Its profile looks similar to an Aston Martin Rapide???

Geoff6666 I agree with you! Very interesting & entertaining thread. Sad news to hear about the LJ. I used to have an LJ & loved it, such a fun little car. The VF, like yours still has no rattles or squeaks. 26000ks, looks & smells like new, hope it stays that way because I like keeping cars for a long time, I've had the VT for 18 years now

+1 for no rattles or squeaks in my 2013 VF Redline. I absolutely love this car!

Guy named Peter Schreyer, worked mostly for VAG prior to KIA.
I think the most notable design of his was the original Audi CC (which was actually fairly funky/cool in original form).
From what I read he’s become a director & they’ve hired another European as design chief to try & crack the Chinese market (dunno why, they only needed to add lots more gold trim).

Liking a Kia I’d imagine will be almost as painful as licking the white dog ****.

Thats a similar attitude that many BMW owners seem to exhibit at times...

The stinger is just a car with no obviously bad aesthetics to it. Many even say it’s a looker, unlike the droopy Ford Falcon that received universal condemnation while it’s chief designer received the sack. But now that Jag and Merc’s have played with similar elements of that look, it isn’t so offensive. Go figure o_O

It’s just badge snobbery, often seen from those who would consider themselves achievers because they bought a BMW or some other brand that floats their boat. Poor form really

I think Kia’s, just like other brands, have both good looking and pig ugly cars and the stinger is a looker ;)

Me, I know many people that have bought a Kia and are rather happy with their choice. Would they prefer a half a dozen luxury cars... yes... but some say they haven’t found that missing $50M Tatts ticket they swore they bought :p

I’m sure if someone gave you a free stinger v6tt you’d be over the moon :D If that happened to me, i’d park it next to my Motorsport :)

I just read this.... RACQ COTY

Australia’s Best Cars revealed with 2018’s best models

Kia was the brand laughing all the way to its trophy cabinet with four class winners.

    Stinger was a winner

There is only one decent turbo sedan and it comes with pie and sauce, not rice.

Haha yes all bmw owners will go to hell. I must admit I’d prob like it more if it had come from a different manufacturer and didn’t have a Kia badge. Maybe I’ve had the image of the Damir Docic from the ad campaign from some years back. Badge snobbery is hard for me to overcome. I’m seeing more stinger on the road than the new zb commodore.

It’s hard to like some things, even if they improve. Like Johnny Farnham if he got skinny, started taking bucket loads of cocaine and vodka and got arrested for attacking cigarette smokers outside office buildings with a big ass leaf blower (which i think would be cool) I still would dispise him immensely.

Go out and buy a $2500 Holden VX Commodore (2000-2001 model), Spend a few hundred dollars on a tune and you will get 230rwkw and 0-100 in 4.9 seconds. Cheapest under 5 second car money can buy. And the 5.7L LS1 can handle this all day. Oh yeah, and the LS1 will sound a lot better than the Stinger.

VZ Executive with the L76 - lift lids, LS3 cam swap, shave heads and FBO and BAM 11s bargain :p
Tuners freaked getting 300+ rwkw (more than HSV) out of L76 with GM cam swap, FBO and tune over a decade ago.
One guy shaved heads (right down), ground reliefs in stock pistons, custom cam, running mid 13:1 CR on ethanol in lightened VZ with drag pack low 10s.
Yeah, good value NA race performance that beats 99% LSA setups costing 10x price.

^ This is why "LS all the things" is a Thing.

I guess also why, over a decade later, so many people are sick of seeing everything being LS swapped ... fasts are good, but sometimes un-boring is more important than fasts.

    *edit*
Yes, in hindsight I did just say that a VT2 SS is more boring to me than a Kia. :)

    *edit* *edit*
And that will probably flop back the other way in, say, another 5 years or so ... starting to see a few more Stingers on the road.

A progress update (for those who think more power from a new turbo is (dial?) up the turbo “boost” coz technology)...
After 300+ dyno pulls and 200 hours professionally dyno tuning the Stinger GT 3.3 V6 with twin-sequential twin-scroll turbochargers, the highest peak power achieved was 450 rwhp (that was peak in rwd mode).
Without splitting hairs too much, with correction that equates to 300-335 rwkw.
Yes that is it, with Fully tuned custom Bolt-ons, like custom hacked ECU, custom headers, running no cats, extra large intercooler mounted in front, racing plugs at $100+ ea, etc.
Next challenge to meet an LS with a cam swap involves custom aftermarket ECU, engineering space for fitting and cooling two larger turbos in an appropriate location.

Stock turbos on any car are generally sized to perform in the lower to mid range powerband.. compressor size will be the limiting factor on most oem turbo setups.

However small frame turbos while making average power up top, usually make instant low end torque and the dreaded "turbo lag" can be eliminated.

I reckon a worked stinger (stock turbos) would have bucket loads more punch than any over cammed naturally aspirated LS but hey thats what big stalls are for..
