Think about what fails most frequently in modern cars and it's usually electronics. I doubt that will ever change as cars become increasingly complex. Think of all the driver aids available now to protect drivers from their own inadequacies. Self parking, lane keeping, radar controlled braking, etc. Do decent drivers really need all that stuff, but you'll get it anyway as standard. Just more to go wrong.

^^^^^^^^^^ above ...… That is my concern about updating to a new car. ( I am turning into my father, who objected to electric windows, air conditioning and not being able to remove spark plugs to look at them.)

The complexity of current driver aids is beyond me as to why they are needed. But then, I learnt how to drive at an early age, and knew by the time I got my licence how thing things worked, both mechanically, and dynamically (an unknown word 50 years ago)
If (big IF) I had a car with current gizmos and I had the option to turn them off, and I did, then was involved in an accident, what would be the legal and moral consequences of turning them off ? Would have the car have avoided the accident and possibly saved a life ?
The debate about who is responsible for an autonomous car accident can be applicable to that situation.

Also a big concern of mine. When the current batch of cars get to be 10 years old they'll be very expensive to own once all the fancy extras start failing.

Cars are becoming like mobile phones where manufacturers are packing them full of **** we didn't know we needed just to keep things fresh.

Planned obsolescence is the business model of this century unfortunately.

Right ! A big, dumb, RWD V8 that goes where it is pointed, and stops where its driver wants it to stop.
But I do not want a return to the Kingswoods, Toranas, and Falcons of the 70s.

I can't quite see the similarity with the ZB and a Kingswood , Torana , and a Falcon from the 1970's .

I pity some numb nut who in 30 years wants to rebuild a VF to original !!!

Well that will never happen will it with all the specialised Plastics and Electronics which will be well and truly obsolete by then and not be cost effective to even try to replicate as most of the type of materials used in the manufacturing process won't even be available.

Happy to accept a W1 if anyone has one spare.;)

In fairness Holden have at last done a few things to help their plight. Firstly, the 5 year unlimited km warranty is a great thing. Combine that with the $500 to test drive their car offer and it shows they finally are backing their own product.

Much much better than rainbow race cars getting smashed in the arse. I know being gay is trendy but that stunt took it to a new level and tbh I think the silent majority simply shook their heads and moved (further) away.

Off subject. Again. Must stop reminiscing. And waffling about crap.
What I was trying to say ….. there is no similarity.
Big, dumb V8s in 2018 of the 70's vintage performance, handling and stopping ? Nuh.
Big, dumb V8s since 2000 till now ……. can't see a problem with them.
Even the current Ford darling, Mustang. ( and I don't mean the current Ford, darling.)
