Hey gurus, just in the middle of installing my amp to power my front and rear speakers. I will post all specs below. My speakers have come with 20 awg wire and my amp wiring kit has come with 16 awg, so should I run new 16 awg wire to my speakers or can I still use the 20? and what are the benefits of using the 16 over 20?

Next is I'm going to use the multimeter method to set my gains, I see some people have their headunits turned all the way up and some people only go 3/4 of the way. If I do it with the volume all the way up does that mean when I have music playing and I have it on full there should be no distortion?

Amp Pioneer GM-D8604
1200W Max Mono
4 x 100W (4Ω)
4 x 150W (2Ω)
2 x 300W (4Ω bridge)
2 x 250W (2Ω bridge)

Front speakers Alpine SPR-50C
Peak power 330w
RMS power 110w

Rear speakers Alpine SPS-610G
Peak power 280w
RMS power 80w

Because my speakers are rated at 110w and the amp is 100w per channel should I bridge my fronts together over 2 channels to bring the power up?

Cheers

You set your head unit to the max without the needing the amp you can get, but still have a clean signal say 25 - 30. Then you adjust your amp to the level you want volume wise. Turning the HU up to full then turning the amp down means you won't have a clean signal on max volume. Let the amp do what it is designed for which is driving the speakers. Turn the amp up to full if you have too.

Ok slowly getting there. I want to get the most out of my fronts so if I wire them in parallel and bridge them over 2 channels does that mean ill have 250w rms over my 2x110w rms (I'm guessing I just add them 220w rms) and then have enough power for them?

Not sure what you mean parallel. But you don't want to connect the speakers together if that is what you mean or the ohms will drop. How many channel amp do you have?

Mine is 400w and RMS is 45. Who told you you would have 220rms? I might be wrong but it doesn't sound right.

4 channel your options are two fronts and two rears or a rear sub and two fronts with the rears bridged to run the sub. If you bridge the front and rears together you can only run two speakers. Trying to run more will damage either the amp or head unit or both.

Na I meant 220rms for my speakers wired in parallel. If I wire the 2 speakers of 110rms each 4Ω in parallel is it the same as wiring one 220rms 2Ω speaker?

amp specs
1200W Max Mono
4 x 100W (4Ω)
4 x 150W (2Ω)
2 x 300W (4Ω bridge)
2 x 250W (2Ω bridge)

Spud, I have the same amp, they are good units.......4 channel amp for 4 speakers, just connect the speakers as normal, you will have 100W RMS to each speaker. The amp will give you plenty and it won't be working hard or getting hot.
