Holden Statesman WK 5.7lt
Hi everyone, just purchased a May 03 WK Statesman which is making a knocking sound at the rear when the car is slowing down and gearing back up. The knock is only heard as each gear changes from fourth to third to second but it doesn't happen all the time. I have read other forums that have mentioned diff, LSD, L/H/R hub or the shocker, the dealership I took it to put it on a hoist but couldnt see anything that was obvious. I don't hear any chatter when rolling slowly, as mentioned its just when I am slowing down or back off the excelerator. Any idea's guys, I also got 3 months/5000km warranty with the car so there should be no issues getting the dealership to get it fixed but just need to point whoever looks at the car in the right direction.

Cheers

Hey davoodii
Go to a good mech or diff joint and ask them to give you a diagnosis if possible, then I suppose back to the dealer. Don't you fork out for it.
Ohh and congrats on the purchase

Also it may just turn out to be a rear bush or something like that

Changing diff oil usually takes a lot of knocking out. Worth doing, it's quick, easy, not expensive and rarely changed. Could ask them to do it or just do it yourself. Also see if your drive shaft has some excessive play or looseness.

Howdy folks and thanks for all the advice, I have finally worked out what it was and got it fixed, for anyone suffering from the same issue, it turned out to be both CV shafts at the rear. Once these were replaced, its now whisper quiet, no more knocking and its very smooth and quiet when changing into any gear now, Park to drive and vice verser. Holden quoted $1595 to fix....gulp so I had a local mechanic quote it and do it for a substantially less price.
