The problem i had was the drivers side screen had a cracked LCD screen (Kids).

I bought another set of interior with working screens from Gumtree but once i swapped the headrest over it said 'security error' and both screens would not display anything and sometimes even the front screen did not either.

I rang Holdens and they werent sure if they could do anything but i would have to book it in for an odb2 scan for $80

I thought id read some forums online but there wasnt alot of info on it and it didnt seem as 'plug and play' as i thought it would be. Im not 100% but It seems that the blaupunkt screens are security code matched to a splitter box and rear dvd unit which i didnt get with the spare interior. So i would have to buy all of it again matched together and thats not going to happen. Also it seems the ODB2 cannot recode it .

This is what i did, and it worked for me......do it at your own risk

Things i needed:

Small phillips screw driver, a sewer from kitchen drawer and a replacement screen.

1) Lean the seat back as the headrest will hit the hood lining before it fully lifts off

2) I didnt do this but at this point you might want to disconnect the negative battery terminal or the 10 and 15 amp fuses in the boot

3) From sitting in the rear seat click the headrest to the highest position then stick the sewer in the headrest aduster lock thingo by one of the metal shafts while pushing the button and lift it past the last lock position. while holding it there you will need to pull down the plastic piece surrounding the 2 shafts as its clipped on. i started with the front side closest to the dash then backside closest to the rear of the car. having the headrest past the last lock position just gives it enough clearance to unclip it and pull it down.

4) Once the plastic piece is unclipped slide it down and it will expose a plug in the headrest which needs to be unplugged. Then remove the head rest all the way out.

5) Remove the 2 large screws at the bottom of the headrest and lift the plastic over the earphone jack a little bit so it doesnt get damaged.

6) Now this part was a bit scary as i thought i broke it... ive done it 3 times now and it hasnt broken yet. There maybe and easy way to do this but i couldnt work it out. Pull the top of the surround away from the leather, there are 2 metal clips holding it on and this takes alot of force and it will make a loud cracking noise aswell to scare you.

7) Remove the Lcd facia by pushing in the 4 clips on the sides.

8) Remove 2 screws on each side of the metal swivel furthest from the screen

9) Remove the 4 screws holding it to the metal bracket

10) Remove the 4 tiny black screws on the LCD surround and lift it off exposing the loose LCD and PCB. From here i took the unit inside to set on a table

11) Holding it together carefully unplug the connector on the side and the ribbon cable at the top. The ribbon cable has tape over the top and a little black locking clip to hold it there.

The LCD is the part i swapped retaining the original PCB. From what i can tell all the security matching is coded to the PCB not the screen itself.

12) Pull apart the spare screen doing the same and put the LCD on the original PCB.

13) Basically do the reverse and put it all back together. My car said security error a couple of times then it worked, probaby because i didnt remove the fuse.

I know its an old car now but i think it would be the same for MY06-13 caprice, it might even work with the WK/WL series as the screens look to be made much the same as in the WM caprices.

Never done a how to writeup before but hope this might help someone

The screens are security coded to the head unit. It's a simple process for someone with a Tech II to code them together. You just have to find someone who knows what they are doing. That's what I've done every time I've replaced them (twice to date). Cost me less than $100. Looks like the dealer you rang need to get their act together.

I just removed the plastic cover , undid the screws, unclipped the screen and removed it then replaced the screen and took it to my local Tech II expert. I didn't take the headrest off nor play with the PCB.

I usually get the security code error on the head unit when I pull the fuse... However, when I replaced the screens and before they were matched, they used to work a few times and then throw the security error on the screens.
