Ok guys so I'm thinking about doing a cam changeover (vcm 21 kit) and wondering if it's worth adding lifters to the shopping cart. I'd think it would be a no brainer but thought I'd ask u guys.
Doing the standard vcm Otr and 1"3/4 headers with 2 1/2" system.

07 Ve ssv l98 sedan. Stock.
Cheers Az

I would be... After all, the lifters in the VE motors aren't known for their reliability or their longevity

Would you change your oil without changing your oil filter?

I have heard that you should always replace lifters when installing a new cam as the face of the lifters hardens with use (as do the cam lobes). Have heard some bad stories about reusing the hardened lifters on new (soft) cam lobes

L98 lifters aren't the bad ones. It's the l76 lifters (dod or afm) lifters that get the bad rep. I haven't heard of ls2 lifters being bad.

Changing lifters will make it a bigger job because the heads have to come off. I would probably do it anyway myself. but if the specs of the vcm cam aren't too big (haven't looked them up) the the l98 lifters will be OK as long as they are in good condition.
