Howdy all, Well just got the car back from injector specialist. He ran a check on the ecu for fault codes and also ran a test on the exhaust fumes. Just a query, could this test actually find if injectors are leaking or not working right as the o2 sensors read changes in exhaust fumes and tell the ecu to adjust fuel to air ratio? He reckons he could find absolutely nothing wrong with it at all, but that doesn't explain my 15.5 to 16L per 100 kms fuel consumption!

Feedback would be awesome,
Cheers,
Boojakz.

Your ecu tells the engine what ratio to run so that it is as close to stoichiometric equlibrium as possible between the octane and oxygen (basically it adjusts itself so that its burning it cleanly, with the most power being produced). I guess it would be possible for the injector specialist to detect how much CO2 compared to CO and then it would tell him how cleanly the engine is burning (The more CO detected the less cleanly the petrol is burning, as a proper reaction should only produce CO2 and water).

Checked purge hoses. Does have a rough idle, but slight acceleration gets rid of that straight away. I've had all sensors tested, replaced knock sensors, had throttle body and iac cleaned, o2 sensors replaced, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, plugs, leads all replaced. Since i replaced the fuel filter, it has brought a lot of life into the car but still getting average fuel economy.

These are the symptoms i'm getting:
1) Poor'ish fuel economy (around 15.5 to 16L per 100kms)
2) Sluggish pickup when in 2nd and 3rd and putting foot down to overtake (almost like a flat spot)
3) Rough idle until i accelerate even the slightest

Cheers,
Boojakz.

Well i was thinking either blocked/leaking. I don't know...to me it does seem like injectors are at fault, after i ran a bottle of injector cleaner and changed fuel filter the car started running a lot better and improved my economy slightly. Just my thoughts.

Keep the feedback coming,
Cheers, Boojakz.

That would be the most logical possibility.

If you can afford to get the injectors cleaned, I'd say go for it, otherwise I'm using an additive that cleaned my miss and flatspot up quite nicely.

Another thing I found at one stage was the injectors weren't sealing against the o rings- by dropping a single drop of water (held in a fish tank line with a thumb over the end) at the very base of the injector. Not saying it is your problem, but a free thing you can do as a check.

Got a reply from one of the guys on this forum about a guy that comes out and does the injectors on site. Sent the business an email, got a reply back, it's going to cost me $280 for him to come out and do it all.

What you guys think? Worth it or not?

Cheers,
Boojakz.

check your fuel pressure, excessive pressure can cause flat spots and check for a vacuum leak as well, there is a vacuum canister under the passenger side front gaurd(the ball looking thingy) in front of the wheel
