FWD. With decent tyres the torque steer isn't really that bad. I can even boost through corners (at low speed though high speed = wheel spin) If I want to be a douchebag apparently if you clutch dump it they will spin 1st and 2nd but no need.
New oil and filter ready to go in. Found out it has a completely different oil filter (about 2 times the size of what it should have) Doubt it really is going to effect anything. Going to run Nulon fully synthetic and see how it goes. Running at about 12 psi now and it's a completely different car to drive now. Got to love forced induction.
Service done. What a bitch of a job. Old oil filter was done up that bloody tight. See pictures for comparision. Also ripped the heat shield off so it can get some high temp black going on. Also sprayed the muffler and exhaust tip stealth black. Looks a million times better I think. More pictures to come when I finish off the heat shield and also give it a wash. Crappy picture but yep definitely a turbo. Amazing no oil to be found. Quite surprised and happy. Old filter right new on the left. Apparently that is a valid oil filter and they screw up the same but eh. No need for a ridiculous oil filter.
Did the heat shields today. Couldn't get the dump pipe shield off so it looks like crap. Will look a little weird being so clean but I will take that over rusty any day.
Good in pictures because they don't show all the dings and scratches But you would never think something that looks and sounds like that is a factory turbo car.
Suspect suspension is a little iffy. Yeah fail. KYB Front Twin Tube GAS Shock Absorbers Mazda 626 MX6 4WS 335006 7 | eBay
Actually looks pretty good Wraith! Are the rear fenders wider than the front, or is that just an illusion made from the rear creases?
Na just an illusion from the creases. Does have what you could call a widebody look to it though which is why I like it.
Tested the window motor today as it has decided to stop working. Seems to be getting power ok but a new motor/reg is about $170 so will be getting the switch first and hoping for the best. Upped the boost again. Don't know what happened but it was sitting at around 8. Now running at 11. Also realigned the steering wheel.
I wish. Hits boost cut at 12 and makes you look like a douche because it cuts all power and beeps at you. Still trying to find a chipped ecu because otherwise the only option is standalone which is 1k plus and will lead to a slippery slope of bigger turbo injectors etc.
yep be happy with what you have, a reliable car that makes the right noises. Besides those Mazda boxes are not very strong!!
The manuals are alright if your not being a tool. LSD is on the cards next year which is really the weakest part of the gearbox. Not hard to spend 5+k and have a 400 hp car with the twin cam motors. I think it's a complete waste of time on a car I bought for $1500 though. I suppose the exhaust was half that but eh.
LSD is a must IMO especially with boost, the torque delivery control is chalk and cheese. A roundabout where a mate lost his open pegger N/A VS in icy conditions, taking out a letterbox and parked car (in a driveway), was the same roundabout I'd gone through minutes before boosted and controlled without a skip. He does suck at cars though.
Yeah the spider gears are the weakest part of the whole thing. When they let go it destroys everything else with it.
