Of course it would, having owned a 99 WRX and driven a mates VE SS plenty of times I can tell you there's no chance a stock 99 WRX would have a chance.

Boost upgrade on the Rex and bye bye SS. WRX has more potential to move opposed to the big fat commodore. Plus it's a third of what the SS weighs.

In what competition?

Transporting 5 adults in comfort: VE
Drag race: VE
Around a reasonably tight track: Rex
dirt/sand/snow rally stage: Rex
Country driving in comfort: VE

Lolwut??? You are saying a WRX weighs 600 kgs??? Really it's a stupid question. Depends entirely what the owner wants from the car - both have strengths in areas that the other cannot ever compete in.

What kind of answer do you expect on a forum called "Just Commodores" ?

Also, you really need to clarify what you mean by BEAT ?
Do you mean does the SS beat the SS in length ? Yes
Does the SS Beat the WRX in Width ? Yes
Does the SS beat the WRX in displacement ? Yes
Does the SS beat the WRX in cylinders ? Yes
Does the SS beat the WRX in seating capacity ? Yes
Does the SS beat the WRX in insurance costs ? Yes
Does the SS beat the WRX in repair and maintenance costs ? Yes
Does the SS beat the WRX in suckiness ? I dunno, I do not own a WRX.

I can see this thread going downhill real fast !

a tune ..and nothing else on the SS
and bye bye to the WRx..by a long shot

plus a few extras...and you get a NA SS running mid tens!
that is what the fastest VE SS is currently running according to the LS1 boys
( VE SSV A6 runs 10.6's on street tyres includes video )
