Inverter's!!!! DO NOT BUY A CHEAP ONE!!! You'll just be wasting your $$$$...
I get one a day for repairs and trust me you don't want to have them repaired!!! Yer, if they're under warranty, no drama!!! But, if you're like most, you'll buy one, use it once, twice, maybe three times a year and it'll sit in your shed. Then one day (the one day after the warranty expires) you'll go to use it and "BANG", box-o-sparks no work anymore...
Good inverter technology costs as much (if not more if you want an AC/DC rig) as a good MIG. I sell Rehm inverters (http://www.rehm-online.de) and these babies are THE top of the line inverters. Yes I get them back for repairs, but not as often as the Chinese, Taiwanese, Italian, American, etc, etc. The Rehm inverters have a three year warranty! No other inverter manufacturer has that sort of warranty....
Do yourself a favour jonno_12! If you're not worried about the quality of the finished weld (because you grind it down), buy yourself an ARC welder and learn how to use it. They're cheap, they will produce an excellent weld when you've learned how to use it. And, they're so cheap, you don't bother repairing them, just buy another one..... Although, if you do want to keep an ARC welder (or any welder for that matter), make sure it has copper primary & secondary coils on the transformer....
Marz..
