Police practice is to wear him down with time as he's no immediate threat to anybody other than the hostages and with the release of some hostages already it's unlikely that he's enough of an extremist that he is willing to kill himself and others.

Just watched a police briefing. Their policy is wrong, primary concern should be to save all the hostages and KILL all the terrorists. It's the only way the wanna be terrorists will learn that taking this kind of action will result in their death.

The police probably aren't sure whether he has an explosive device with him, or with anybody else, hence why he is still alive. I am a big fan of small lead tablets inserted in the criminal's left ear however, if he does have a device that will detonate on his death, then wait.

-the fact he is happy to show his face! Means he prob not planning on coming out alive!
- These guys generally suicide bomb or when hostages are taken they are beheaded

remote triggers are fairly easy to deal with and a contingency the police would be equipped for. Hell, our prisons use that technology.

The reason he hasn't been shot is because at this stage the only thing hurt is pride. Had he hurt or killed a hostage the situation would be much different. Fairly standard rules of engagement.
