You could have seen one driving around today! Got it into town surprisingly easily.
I have no doubt I could jump in and take it to Melbourne tomorrow if I had somewhere to keep it.

I have about 1000 photos from the last couple days work, and I'll get around to loading them up soon.

The gearbox is VERY vague (like, move the shifter and pray there is a gear there somewhere), but is seems to be tightening up as I drove it around a little.
It coughs and backfires a little, but hopefully thats just the remains of the shitty old fuel burning through.

The only problems I have at the moment are that the sump bolt thread is 90% stripped, barely holding in and leaking a tiny bit so I'll chase down a new one tomorrow.
And sometime today I bumped a tacho wire and now the tacho doesn't work 90% of the time, but thats no real drama.

Starts first time, every time (now), but it seems a little hesitant to rev at first. Hopefully thats only an ignition drama and I'll sort that out easily

Now to get onto those photos...

Bah, camera battery ran out half way though downloading the photos, then half of the ones that downloaded won't upload, then half the uploaded ones were rubbish, so here is a slightly less crap photo or 2

And....before leaving yesterday I had a quick look over the whole car and made a quick "to do" list (ignoring minor paint problems and small dents):

BODY:
RH driving light lens cracked
Chrome bumper - small dents
Grill - LH cracked, broken mount
Bonnet - hinge area damaged
RH Guard - Dent, lower blackout cracked & rust bubble??
RHF Door - Mould peeling (not a big deal I know)
RH dogleg - paint/primer peeling & cracked
RH quarter - mould missing (it's in the car though), vent broken
Bootlid - many highs and lows, shitty paint patch cracking
LH quarter - mudguard split (new one in the car too), rippled
LHR door - sagged/doesn't close properly
LH guard - rippled
"A" pillar - paint cracked & small rust bubble??
Windscreen crack
All blackuts/black trims need paint

UNDER BONNET (just the essentials):
New dizzy/cap
Spark plugs & leads
New air cleaner (for when gas is gone)
Replace/rebuild carby
Bonnet latch
Clutch slave cylinder and bellhousing dust cap
Brake booster
Brake hoses (just to be safe)
Tyres

INTERIOR:
Drivers door trim worn
Drivers carpet worn
New console (for when aircon is gone)
Console lid worn
Drivers sun visor clip broken (fussy again)
Boot mat torn
All door seals worn

And the immediate problems:
Won't start without fuel/aerostart down the carby when left overnight
Slight hesitation when you give it a quick rev (and it stalled once when I gave it a quick stab)
Gearbox very sloppy (stick is very loose and can barely feel it click into gear)

Just a bit of a to-do list for me there

EDIT: Oh, and add power steering to the "future mods" list

Got an original air cleaner arriving in a few days, picked up a 1.5" fuel pressure gauge to help get it all running right, found the original louvres for the rear window, and now need to find the patience to wait for the next chance to go out to Mums place and have another play.

cant wait to see you pull that carby down. take loads of pics if you dont mind, ive never seen anything like it.

paint looks pretty mint too!

I've had 2 other fairly knowledgable blokes come for looks at the car and both have said the same thing about the carby (one knew a little about it though). It's a carter thermoquad, and from what I've read up about them they seem pretty good for mild motors

The paint is pretty good. It could probably get away with just a bonnet, boot and quarter spray, but I'm too fussy for that so the whole lot has to get done

Got a carby rebuild kit after the bloke at bursons spent about 4 hours and at least 4 phone calls searching for me. There is a 4 week wait for the float though, so I'll have to hunt elsewhere for that. I've got bursons getting me a price on an electronic ignition distributer, new coil & leads, but won't hear back about it until tomorrow. Failing that I'll give Eagle Auto Parts a go, but I pay trade at Bursons so they get first dibs for now.

Having a little trouble finding a few brake parts for it, but there are still plenty of phone calls to make.

Oh, and Ari, I'll be pulling the carby off and bringing it back to melbourne for the rebuild so there are sure to be plenty of photos for you.

wow, that is one nice looking project you have there
i love the old falcons, we've had a few XA/B/C in my family (and one or two were special models, like yours) such a nice car to drive, and they just look so mean on the street, i cant wait to see the results and will definitely be checking back to see how your going :)
