I've been having a debate with a fellow member in another thread about this topic, and to clear up that thread from off topic posts I've started this one.

My point is that for cheap performance, tunability, amd ways to upgrade, nothing comes close to an LS1. The point has been made that bolt-on LS1s are into the 11's, and that XR6Ts are into the 10s with the standard turbo. Another point was made that the Ford's turbo starts to sruggle upward of 380kw. My major point is, to make the GenIII faster you can;

1)open the engine keeping it atmo
2)keep the engine closed and go forced induction.
3)go both.

Then there's the forced induction options;

1)centrifugal supercharger
2)screw type supercharger
3)both
4)single turbo
5)twin turbo

Another point to be made is that both types of supercharging, and the single and twin turbo set ups are available in kit form, helping reduce the cost of the items.

However, with the XR6T, all you can do is open the engine and upgrade the turbo (and intercooler accordingly).

So, what's everyone else's opinions on which is better - LS1 or XR6? Please avoid fuel economy, there are other threads about that.

kill -9, I'd just like to appologise for attacking you personally in the other thread. Bad form on my part.

HSV GTO. 408ci Stroker, LS3 top end.
Go the LS1. Its a lot cheaper and has 4-6yrs of development that the fords dont.

If you want a LS1 in the 10's just bolt on the twin turbo kit from Tuna. I had his GenT kit on the caprice and it was awesome.

I put my edit only barge up against a WRX around QLD raceway and destroyed him. 5.7L beats a 2L buzz box even with 700+kg more weight. I'd love to have another go now i have 408cubes, coilovers and bigger brakes.

You're running a 12, I have no doubts your car is a beast..

What I'm saying is there's more to cars then cubes.. There is a replacement for displacement.. Like I said above.. A 3.8litre Commo vs a 2.0litre WRX, I have no doubts about who would win..

IIf i had the choice of both cars new, and all that was allowed was a tune, i would take the ford.

As for bolt on's, guys running GenT's are still only managing 10's. Same as the ford guys in street trim. Unless your talkign pure race performance ina straight line, then there is no true difference. It is actually cheaper to get the XR6T to run a 10 than it is an LS1.
