If I was into classics to make money seems that I have flopped already. Bought VB for $2800 (too much). Now only worth maybe $6-7k tops. Spent waaaayyyyy more than $4200 in the interim....... No, just figured an aussie delivery would be far less likely to be molested and thrashed. Easier to get parts too? Or is that not an issue with grey import skylines?
aussie imports were just the bottom spec GTR. they were highly sought after for a couple of years until us "filthy grey-importers" got our hands on them and dropped the value by bring in better optioned versions for cheaper.
As much as i like the nissan engines.. I'd be getting it checked out thoroughly before buying, known a couple of people that bought a 32/33 only to have head problems not long after..... unfortunately without pulling the head off it's not easy to see if it has/hasn't been looked after.
It was the Turbine wheels that were ceramic. They were ceramic because they're more than half the weight of the steel wheels which means they spool faster. The bearings are plain bronze. On a GTR, the ceramic wheels will only take around 15-16psi before they fly to pieces. When they let go, little pieces tend to run down the manifold and into the cylinders... Ceramic is a lot harder than steel. You can imagine what the damage would be... Its only around $1200 to rebuild them with steel wheels, 360deg thrust bearings ect to make them into N1 spec (Nismo).
They are fugly......Prefer the note of a V8 over some piece of **** that sneezes every time you put the boot into it. Not trying to piss any body off. Just my 2 cents worth.
not trying to piss anyone off would be a more civil explanation!! turbos tend to "sneeze" when you let off the throttle btw, not getting on it. id have to go with the 32 like everyone else, 33 looks ok, but 32 just has "that" presence
Just my two cents, Turbo owners love smashing blokes like you with you V8 with a 'note'. Also learn how a system works if your going to have a crack, just makes you look like a fool.
Owner of a couple of turboed Suburus, absolutely loved the Legacy and WRX. Prefer the note of a V8 now to the turbo. Don't know about one shitting on the other, but one thing i do know is that the money i was pumping into the turbos chasing electrical issues is now being carefully placed into performance upgrades to my SS which is now making considerably more power than either the WRX or the Legacy ever could. Make of that what you will.
From what i've seen the subaru engines are quite hard to get large power numbers out of without substantial work but they have so much grip that you don't need as much. you can't really compare a subaru to a skyline they're completely different beasts.
