Hey there. Need some advice. Grandparents are looking at getting a July 2007 build VE Calais. Bit worried about the timing chain issue they have had though. Any way to know for sure whether the motor has the revised chain? They guy reckons the motor is US stock going by the engine number but I have no idea how he came to that conclusion.

It has 76 000. Serviced on time by Holden.

How many km's? I thought most had the timing chain replaced at 100,000km therefore correcting the issue?

What gives you that idea? It's not a serviceable item. Only requires replacement if it fails.

No way to tell without ripping off the front cover unfortunately.

Well they bought it. The engine number seems to match a later model one with the revised chain. Not a bad car. Only a calais but with roof mounted dvd player etc.

From what I understand they fail around 100,000kms so at 100,000kms most mechanics will try and change them for two reasons, 1-to fix a known issue 2-it's a big job they they'll make money
