VR CLUBSPORT
I have a VR Clubsport that I have owned since new. In the last twelve months a problem has occurred and is getting worse.

The car will simply stall while driving along. I wait 30 minutes then it goes again. Sometimes it won;t start in the morning or after work and once again I wait 30 minutes then it goes again.

I did find that if I short one of the spark plug leads to chassis it fires then starts up no problems. However this very strange fix doesn't seem to work anymore.

Recently it is doing it every few days where as it was every frew months.
I have had the coil and trigger unit changed without any change.

My local auto electrician tells me he can't find anything wrong because every time I go there the car works just fine.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I am sick of being pulled over on the side of the road making Holden look bad just for the car to suddenly start working again.

Atleast I won a bet with a Ford owner that holdens are better than Ford's because my HSV repairs it self :) I just wish it would stay repaired.

Thanks All

when you say it stalls, is it just dead or it splutters first. normally would've said the little ignition module but it sounds like you have repalced it, was it new or used? whats the condition of the coil to distrubutor cap high tension lead? have a good look at the cap also, is it cracked, what do the contacts look like? rotor?

easy easy easy question...

crank angle sensor... next time it stalls, pour water over it and I bet it will start again. If so, replace crank angle sensor

5 litre doesn't have a CAS. It's got an ignition module and coil. The coil breaks down when hot too, something else to check.

I was caught a while ago. The VL 6cyl has a CAS in the dizzy, I assumed the 5 litre had one too. Now I sound like I know what I'm talking about, lol.

I have replaced the ignition module and coil.

I forgot to mention that the engine mangement light comes on when ever it stalls.

BTW it just stops, no coughing or spluttering. When it does start again it starts straigt away and runs smooth.

Thanks for your replies so far.

it will be your hall effect device, i'm positive! it is in your distributor, when it get's hot it fails if it is faulty. and the car stalls.
