Transmission fault code 85?

Can anyone tell me what the fault code 85 for the transmission represents as my manual only gives me the fault codes for the engine?

Thank you very much for your response Cuckoo. I'll clear the codes and see if it happens again. I usually don't thrash my car but the other day I did for a brief moment and the slipping may have happened then.

no the soliniod may be f**ked it cant control the tourque converter

i have this problem also. i towed a trailer yesterday for the first time (newly fitted towbar) and its never towed before. 297k on it. Only had two bikes on a basic trailer but i left it in D the whole trip (aprrox 150kms) it didnt seem to have issues at the time, but coming home with one bike this time it wouldnt go to overdrive at all, so i locked it in 3 and sat on about 90km/hr.. tested codes and only 85 comes up. would this driving do a solenoid damage? or is it possibly more sinister? the box hasnt been serviced in the 50k iv put on it and dont know if it ever was before i bought it..

its a vt s1 97 model v6.

I am wondering if you ended up finding out what was the cause of the fault code 85. I am having the same problem with my '98' VT. Got it services but it is still kicking back to 3rd and Won't go back into overdrive unless I pull over, put it in park, turn it off then start up again. Any help from yourself or anyone else would be appreciated

I have the same problem with my VS Ute,code 85 coming up took to a service place, he's never seen a code 85 before, he didn't know what to tell me, no good to me paid to have him tell me he didn't know what is wrong with it! I already didn't know without paying to have him tell what I already didn't know..so need some help as I've got a buyer for my ute, can't sell till sorted..VSDave.
