How many km's is too much-vt

Hi
Looking for a vt at the moment. I did have a berlina lined up a week ago (98 with only 74,00kms) but it fell through. I'd ideally like more features but will look at an executive if it is right.

Most ads I see have about 150,000 to 230,000 on the clock for around $8,000. That's about my price range but was hoping for lower kms.

How long has others vt's gone (kms) and any other problems as the car ages. Of course I realise every car is differen't, the way it is treated, maintained etc.
Cheers

if you go off an average year km's say 20K-25K per year your looking at 140K-200K. I would be looking at ones around the 150K-160K mark. If you look at the higher km cars (200+) you could be doing alright if they have only done lots of highway driving. Thats only my opinion

Yep.. My car had 174,000km when I bought it.. It was 2001 October car I bought in March 2005..

It traveled rougly 45,000km a year.. It belonged to Bunnings Ballarat and is in top notch condition..

Runs beautifully.. I reckon it runs better then my mates 2003 VY Exec..

besides the occasional knock in the diff my wh runs smooth and it now has 213000kms on it the build quality (interiors/exteriors) look just as good as when it rolled out the showroom, they hold up a lot better then what the old vp's vr's did in my opinion

Auctions are your best bet mate. Family picked up a 99 S2 VT with 81,000km on the clock for 8k. Real good nick too ;) Just hit 83,200 and its still driving like new.

Most auctions you will find them with over 100,000km on the clock, but they are all checked mechanically with a full report of what is wrong with the car.

Funny you might mention that Nikkojoe. It just happens that I went to an auction in Adelaide today. They had a VT 2000 with 103,000 kms. It was a public auction. The dealers backed off at $6500 while two public fellas fought it out. Ended up going for $8500. It was out of rego, had a missing fuel cap and only one key, but besides that was in good nick. I was just spectating today but maybe next time I'll have a go.

Got a customers car thats just hit 250,000klm and the V6 engine is still going strong. Mind you he does service the car every 10,000klm without fail and we follow the service handbook when doing it. It doesnt use any oil and still has the original gearbox in place and belive you me he's not easy on the car either!!
