VT COMM 99 series 2 white
Hi im looking at buying a vt commodore sometime in the next 4 months as i will be turning 18 in august. Is there any main differences between the vt's that were made in 97 and the ones that were made later? (performance wise or anything?)

I came across something the other day reading up on the model and it was something about the 97 model being alot heavier then the later models. < any truth to this guys?

Im trying to suss everything out about the vts at the momment. I'l have about $8,000 saved by august so hopefully i can pick up a good vt with not too many k's on the clock. Also are the vt's economical on petrol?

Any feedback is appreciated

I've got a 99 VT series 2, I don't think theres much difference between the series 1 and 2. The averages kms on VT's these days are 160,000 kms any lower is a bonus.

I get around 450kms from a full tank being heavy footed at times.

Go for a series 2.
The series one's were heavier, ergo will use more fuel.
Series 2 will have had the bugs ironed out too.
Try and score a manual if u can!
Fuel wise, my VX gets bout 600ish to a tank of juice.
460 to a tank of gas.

When looking at the car, make sure u check for regular servicing etc.
You should be able to pick up a decent clean one.

Thanks deserthead that really helps! I think i'l try to pick up a series 2 if i can Where do you guys think is the best spot to pick up a good vt?

Ive heard that buying from auctions is dodgy cos you cant get the car properly checked out before you buy it.

No worries dude.

Cant comment on auctions, I bought mine from a dealer.
Only cause it was a manual, an S, and the colour I wanted.

Shop around mate. Best advice I can give. Dont get your heart set on the first car u c either. I did that with my first one, and it fell through. . . .

Shop round and do your home work!

I no what you mean. I found a vt 2000 series 2 model with 110000km for $6700, The guy that was selling it was going to be going overseas.

After looking at the car i was so excited we had a road worthy done and i got the $ together but at the last minute the guy pulled out and said he wasnt going overseas anyomre. I was soo pissed.

In a way it was a good thing that it fell through because after being soo close to getting my first car it has now givin me so much insentive to try and make extra $, so ive been mowing laws and just saving every cent.

Have u looked at insurance and that crap yet?
Thats always the worst part of getting a car I reckon.

Yep its ****ing rediculous its like $1900 for fully comp which i wont be able to afford so i think i might just get 3rd party fire and theft ($390) As long as i take it easy for the first year and get used to the car i should be right.
Yer gas sounds good as, im hoping to pick 1 up with dual fuel if i can. I dont want to be spending every cent ive got on my car every week.

One of my mates has a vt on gas and he says he spends about $35 a week on fuel and drives around heaps. Is the maintenence any higher if you run gas?
