Hi guys I'am going to change the oil and filter in my vx ecotec tomorrow and I need opinions on what I should get based on my cars k's and how much I drive. At the moment I have a knock sound on "warm" starts so I'am hoping this change could solve the problem.

The car has 78800k's and I only drive max 100km on the weekend and the rest of the time it sits in the garage.

Based on this what would you recommend ?

I use Ryco oil filter. They seem pretty good. Do not get the cheap repco ones.

Repco stocks them (its where I got mine), but autobahn might have it, I don't know but they also might have other brands of oil filter. So better go in and ask.

Trans oil should be mentioned in the owner's manual. If I were you, I would follow what the manual says about the oil.
Not sure what oil it says tho.

It's all been covered before in other threads. Ask 5 different people with the same car what oil they use and you'll get 5 different answers. As for an oil filter use one with a good reputable name like Ryco or valvoline and you won't go wrong. I don't want to start a mineral vs synthetic oil argument (thats been done many times before too) but with only 70 odd thousand K's on the clock give a good synthetic oil a try. Something in the 10W-40 range. Valvoline have a 10w50 which would be suitable too. I like the Nulon 10w/40

As far as the manual gearbox I believe Dexron III is only suitable for auto boxes.

Except for the ford manuals 91- and they use a differant auto fluid (not Dexron III)
