I just bought castrol GTX3 15w/40 oil for my VT V6 thats done 146,000kms im thinking that i made the wrong choice as this oil is a mineral oil and may be suited to older engines? I haven't opened it yet and bought it from K mart so they will prolly take it back.
would castrol magnatec be a better option?

cheers.

oh no no no...

i used gtx3, 4000kms later, it was like MUD..
I just spent $55 on ELF Fully synthetic 10w-50, runs smooth as.

Magnatec is highly over-rated, i wouldn't use it.

Magnatec is a mineral oil with a synthetic ester.
Check the owners manual and use the oil recommended in that. When the engine was built the oil that best suited the tolerances of the engine was used. As engine building technologies advanced, tolerances tightened and so lighter weight oils were developed. Using too light an oil in an engine designed for heavier oil will result in reduced oil pressure and possibly a noisy engine.

in my owners manual it says recommended 10w-30 for best fuel economy....so 10w-50 would be a perfect replacement for an engine that does long runs, is a bit older or just wanting more engine protection...
