my mates got himself a series 1 VT SS auto, ive noticed that its sluggish below 2500 rpm and was wondering if its related to the engine management or the auto trans?? would a tune fix this problem or does it need to ahve a shift kit installed to stop this problem???

hi, well a shift kit isnt going to work because @ that rpm it hasnt changed gear yet (ie shift kit are for quicker/firmer shifts) so there isnt the delay - 5500-3000 (2 seconds later, its instant)

try and stall it up to 2000 then nail it. a tune would help:thumbsup:

The VT is a heavy car and the 5.0L wasn't known for its power in a VT.

what i mean is even when you boot it, it feels like there isnt any power there when you take off from standing start.... wont even chirp the wheels? like the trans is limiting the power that gets delivered to the rear wheels on takeoff

try a cold air intake, some new plugs, and leads.

oh and the biggest problem, change the dizzy cap. mine run slike a dream although mines a brand new motor.

they are still slugs though in an auto.

Well as these guys said, VT's are heavy and the 5ltr will be a bit sluggish in it, but is it completly stock??
A decent headers and exhaust system with a tune and a good air intake setup will make it move a lot better.
But the 5ltrs dont really get moving til after about 2500 anyway, mine really starts movin at about 3000, and then it hoots.

i've done the following on mine in the pics there.

Pacemaker headers
twin 2 and a quarter inch exhaust
cold air intake
K&N oil pod filter
Top gun leads and iradium plugs
New dizzy cap( and new motor, but that dosnt matter really)
upgraded the earth's
removed the air con
running a small belt with the one less air con pulley
trans stage 2 shift kit

not much, but it goes much better.
