Just a quick post to say if anyone is considering puting in HID lighting, DO IT!! the lights are so much whiter and brighter without being glarey, best thing i ever did to the Calais. I have done the low beam and fog lights both in 6000k. very very happy. next purchase will be for the high beam.

Couldn't agree more. My mate got HID's for his honda accord and they were terrific. People go on about how there is no even spread and cut off line but they do look so much better that your normal lights.

...they are near useless in the rain...

seriously...

ignore what anyone else says.... 4500k or so may be good in the rain, but 6000+ are not.

i have found 6000k to be ok in the rain when we get it here in Vic!! better than halogen anyway and a lovely white light.

What was involved in doing the conversion?

i guess maybe extending the existing wiring, mount the balast and run the wiring from the balast back to the headlight and bulb,

just at a guess
