Default What do you wash your car with?

    Hey

Need to clean the exterior of my car just wondering what products everyone uses?

and espically what you use to get bugs of the bonnet and front bar.

I think its Eagle 'wet look' wash. It's red and comes in a big bottle about 1 litre. It's cheap too , and the cheapest is always the best as they say. There are special products for bug and tar removal but i just use my fingernail.

Hey there - had a special lesson on how to detail cars from a guy who Cleaned upmarket cars for around 30 yrs in his own business he had his own tricks for allsorts for different stains and marks - but to cut a long story short, start with mild cleaners (soap and water) and if the dirt wont shift use something stronger till it does - I once saw him soak a badly grease marked seat in petrol followed by a wash with detergent it came up a treat, as for the panelwork - wax and then more wax oh and lots of elbow grease.
You put the polish on you rub the polish off Grasshopper !

I just use the armour all wash/cleaner to remove the dirt and then use the clay bar to sort out stubborn marks

If you have the patience you can use the wet towel method.. soak a towel in fresh water and drape it over your bonnet/bumper.. leave for a while then come back and the bugs just wipe off with a sponge.

For my own cars, I don't even use a soap, just rainwater and a sponge. Wash once a week then wax, the paint stays so smoothe you don't need to scrub at the bugs and spots, they just wipe straight off. Takes a bit of groundwork to get your paint to that stage first though if you have an older car... a Meguiar's clay bar is a great place to start.

turtle wax wash and a soft wash we have in the detailers bay at work lately.
was useing just what ever they use at the car wash places, and have used a wash/wax which was called no water( i think) was very very good, gave a good claen and a fresh wax finish that lasted a while like it had just been waxed and polished, u spray it on and use a cloth to clean with then a polish rag to go over with after

I use some blue stuff in a big bottle, Eagle One maybe? I don't know....it's car wash....and it's a car....people tend to go to extremes to keep their car clean. When I was younger I used to obsess about car cleanliness, as you get older you realize there are more important things in life. Sure, a clean car looks nice, but how often can you enjoy time with your kids? Or appreciate a nice afternoon with a loved one?

Vinegar only on outside for windows. Armor all heavy duty and bi-carb for bugs then if I can be bothered I do the normal armor all general stuff. Waxing I use different brands but mainly turtle wax. (the stuff you can hit your car with a hammer and it wont dent)
I don't tend to wash/wax my car any more maybe every now and then with general armor all and that's it...Only because I'm going to give it a lick of paint anyway towards the end of the year.

we can't use a bucket and sponge at a car wash here in sa, but we can hand wash at home as long as we use a bucket, and then use a bucket to rinse the car.

Yeah alot of them down here won't let you use a bucket and sponge, but lucky for my local area the asian bloke that owns our local car wash is all for recycling and saving water, his car wash takes the water, filters it back through a system he has installed out the back, and re uses most of it.

But no bucket and sponge between 9am and 6pm saturday or sunday. Any other day and time is fine.

Is that using your own soap or the car washes? Up here with the ones i went to they dont mind you using your own sponge aslong as your spraying their detergent on. lol
