VR Commodore V6
Hi there.

I currently have a VR V6 with ABS, and would like to upgrade the brakes to V8, at the least.

Now, I seem to have trouble sourcing a VR V8 brake booster, and master cylinder WITH ABS to put in. So it makes me wonder, was there a double diaphram booster and 1" master cylinder made to suit ABS?

Now because I'd like to get my brakes feeling better, if a V8 setup with ABS is out of the question, the next choice really for me, is to put a VT system in it. That brings a few questions.

1. What will I need?
2. Would there be a difference between a VT V6 and V8 setup?
3. Will a VT setup work with my VR ABS?
4. Will it all fit under the 15" rims I've currently got on the car?
5. With the upgrade, is it only the booster, master cylinder, and front calipers that get changed? Do the front discs get changed too?
6. Do the rear brakes get touched at all?

Thanks, Cameron

There is a massive amount of thread on upgrading brakes.

most v8 brakes are the same as v6 brakes, its only the big brake kit that's different in the different vr vs range. If U upgrade to VE brakes U don't have to change boosters or masters.

Fixed it for you.

Agreed with above, don't waste your time going a V8 upgraded the only real difference is the brake booster and master cylinder, everything else is the same. VT upgrade requires a bit of stuffing around and making up a bracket for the brake booster. VE upgrade is the way to go, not only will your braking feel better but there is a lot less stuffing around to be done.

I wanted a VE brake upgrade, but, I can't fit them under my current 15" rims. Thats why I'm looking at other options

It may work out that same cost if you search for some second hand rims, that will fit the VE brake upgrade.

It's just a 6. Get some decent brake pads and some slotted rotors. Done.

Pads and rotors aren't my main concern.

It's more M/C and Booster.

Which makes me ask, is there a 1" master cylinder to suit an ABS?

Search for a BT1, calais, berlina, statesman or caprice that had a V8 in it and you will be set to go.
