Seems the problem is that it’s simply too high a normal recommended price point set by the manufacturer or wholesaler. And it seems that once the price drops 25% during one of their many special, the product moves.

It also seems your gripe is more related to the back office bullshite a seller probably has to jump through when such sales occur rather than the tyre itself. In other words your wearing sellers goggles rather than buyer goggles.

I’ve read some Kumhos are good but are they comparable in price to the RE003’s discounted price and are they as good or better than the RE003’s?

Sitting here thinking about this post....It makes sense....Bridgestone have obviously overpriced these tyres to compete successfully with their competition....So they discount them constantly to compete and move the product....

So this means, their head office should actually see this and price them accordingly, rather than constantly bastardise the price to move them

Maybe @RevNev can compare the ‘4 for the price of 3’ RE003s with the full price RE003s at his next track day and prove to us that the discounted ones have the worse performance? Maybe that’ll answer @vc commodore’s concerns?

Nah, probably not!
Nah...I made a comment about track performance on dirt and that didn't go down too well, despite me commenting race rubber vs normal car rubber....

Reading what you have written, it seems like the RE003 can't compete with the Kumho when they are at the original price, so Bridgestone want to discount it constantly to compete....
Whether full priced RE003’s can compete with Kumo‘s isn’t the question.

Most car people will know the discount game, and when it’s played, so they buy on the down cycle. In that context the theory that the RE003’s can’t compete when sold at X isn’t relevant when we know they are sold or will soon be sold at 0.75X ;)

The fact that such games are played is less than ideal but sadly the retail world is full of these bullshite psychobabble games It’s either learn to play or pay too much for possibly similar performing or even inferior tyres

I’d be confident to say that most people don’t like such discount sales games but the question of whether there are any better tyres than the RE003’s when sold at their discounted price is still relevant.

If Kumos aren’t discounted in the same way, I’m not sure if they are or aren’t, a fair comparison will look at the performance aspects of the normal priced Kumo (if never discounted) against the performance aspects of the (often) discounted RE003. It’s all related an apples for apples comparison to find best bang for buck in the given price point :p

And just saying Kumo isn’t really an answer as I’m sure there are various Kumo tyre variants to choose from, all at different prices points…

But this has dragged on far too long and I’m bored with it as I’m not needing to replace any tyre for some time, so meh

Are you suggesting after 8 years and 11 sets of RE003 experience across various cars, I should've discovered they're crap tyres by Bridgestone's marketing strategies?

I think RE003's are too expensive for people on a budget and aren't top of the range for those who can afford and want the best. There are likely other brand tyres in the same 2nd tier performance range that likewise aren't strong sellers without discount incentives.

And sitting back thinking about @Skylarking comment, the problem would be, Bridgestone have priced them too high for the competitors they are competing against.....So to try claw some market back, they have to constantly discount them to get there...

I have previously said, it's a marketting ploy to sell things by offering a discount, but you had the blinkers on.....Now you are repeating the same thing.

It's as simple as figuring out why products are constantly discounted to move and go from there, instead of having the blinkers on...

People love a bargain where they get something free. TV adverts 'buy 1, get 1 free'.
I got the 'buy 4 for price of 3' because I (unknowingly ) went to Bridgestone at the right time for new tyres. Couldn't resist that offer.

If Kumhos are continually discounted, I'd still be asking the question, why if they are so good....

I very rarely make suggestions in tyre threads, on which tyre someone should get, for the exact reason of, everyone prefers one sort over the next.....And this thread is no different

Throughout this whole crap show, my stance has always been and always be, why discount something constantly to move it.....Quality products sell themselves....And I'm not referring to the twice a year sale most places have....It's the constant discount

Not real complex, one would think...

Yes marketting stragedy.....Appeal to the hip pocket with the general public to move the product.....

Yes but marketing and product placement is a sad game often played.

Maybe the way to look at it is that Bridgestone knowingly overprices its tyres and catch’s a few suckers during the year but knows they must have frequent sales to move stock but they are happy to do just that.

It’s not a strategy I like but it’s something that some MBA specialising is the phycology of sales may be pushing at Bridgestone. Only Bridgestone know how effective their strategy is at selling their tyres at volume.

Sadly you can’t change the marketing strategy at Bridgestone and as you don't want to say which tyres is equal or better than the RE003’s at their cheaper price, fair enough, it’s all a moot point trying to find the best bang for bush tyres (which ain’t a problem for me as I wont need tyres for a while).

So to paraphrase all your posts by saying you don’t like Bridgestones sales and pricing strategy would have been sufficient and a few pages of posts would have been avoided ;)
