Moth balls simply boost the octane. The moth balls method has been in use since the 70s. Very old remedy.
Reason for moth balls boosting your power, simple they are made from naphthalene.
Which is a hydro carbon. Explains why it boosts your power.
But you have to be careful there are three types of mothballs.
One of them is a HCI based ball. With is an acid. I don't think that would do your fuel lines any good.
Not sure of the other one.
But the third one is naphthalene. Which is the ordinary commom mothballl. On the packet it should tell you what the ingredients are. Not only that, naphthalene has it's own distintive smell.

Cheers,
Jim

Mythbusters is one of my favourite shows. Those guys have the coolest jobs!! The egg in the radiator as a stop-leak was a good one, and as for the mothballs I'm not sure that's a good one to try long-term. I wonder if the use of mothballs is covered by the Holden Factory Warranty?
I did feel sorry for the Cadillac motor (and body as well!). It was tortured beyond belief: after getting a sugar high it was fed terrible food, made to swallow a raw egg and bleach before finally passing away through over-exertion. RIP.

Mark.
