2005 VZ 5L40-E Transmission Replacement?

My tranny died on me 2hrs away from home.
I was sitting on 110km with Cruze control, it was changing rough and having high revvs..
I had no choice but to keep driving it until it disengaged and refuse to drive more than 10m on to the car trailer before it would disengage again..
I’m wonder if I can put another transmission in that isn’t the 5L40-E that would pretty much bolt straight in?

I had just done a service on the transmission 1 month prior, there was some metal in the oil and it was very dark, very over due, it was driving fine until I went to drive home and then got stuck on the side of the road with a toddler

no other transmission will fit without extreme modifications

6L80 conversion. It’s not a simple one.
It’s the electronics involved that is really tough. There is a thread in the transmission section for a Cross 8 that has links to as many six speed conversions I could find.

Easiest conversion would be a manual conversion which is also quite complicated.

BMW 8 speed conversion is also an option which will deliver a driving experience that will have you keeping the car forever. About $15k to do.

Fit is one thing. Getting them to work is the hard part.

Might as well just buy a BMW at that point :)

I ended up finding a mint 4 spd supercharged write off, might just have to do an engine swap if it comes down to it
