UFO-I'm in vic and yes I'm referring to the used vehicle warranty. The accident damaged the front right of the car, front light, bent a tiny bit of the radiator housing so that was replaced, new quarter panel and new bumper. Had nothing to do with the drivetrain and the force didn't affect the chasis so it's not my fault the drivetrain has a fault. And if they want to fight and not honour the warranty I won't back down. Hope it goes well. Having no car again for a few weeks I'm not looking forward to. And hell if I'm forking out 5g for something I didn't do lol!

thats fair enough dude, but even though the drivetrain wasnt physically hit in the accident an arguement can be made that the accident caused the drivetrain problems because of the sudden stop. not saying thats the reason, just saying that its an arguement that could be used. are they actually aware of the accident? if not you've got a better chance!

The dealer doesn't know nor does the finance company. If the drivetrain was damaged from the ding, then shouldn't the claims inspector and the repairers have picked up the damaged drive train? I will be honest with whomever I deal with because I am not at fault.

If that's the case the dealer sounds like he has some trouble heading his way. If you are concerned about getting the runaround again, maybe take the car to a 3rd party transmission specialist (might cost a little bit but will be worth it later). Dont authorise any work, just get a diagnosis and quote for repair. Take this written expert opinion back to the dealer and follow up with an email or phone call (something you can refer back to for records- email better). You seem as though you arent prepared to take any more crap over this, maybe its time the dealer starts to understand your intended resolve on this matter. Keep things civil, dont lose your temper, and keep as many records as possible. Names, times, conversation details. Fair Trading (or your state equivalent) will have a field day with them if you have all your ducks lined up from the get go.

Update:
Took the car to Holden last week they had it for two days they performed driving tests, checked the trans, the computer, recalibrated multiple times. Told me "they've never seen this fault before" so I've had the car back since then. calling them every second day if they've talked to melbourne Holden hq to find out what's going on and how to fix.

Called this arvo, finally melb Holden have told them to perform something called dtc checks and trans checks which they told me will determine the exact fault and if the trans needs replacing or it just is a computer fault.
My bet is a new trans is needed..

It's nice that I've still had the car to drive rather than it sitting at Holden doing nothing lol.

Okay here's a few other things I've noticed with my Calais since I've owned it-
driving feel has diminished
alot more bumpier on roads
more tyre and road noise
steering wheel vibrates/shakes subtly
higher speeds the car feels less steady
AUX squeals sometimes, drivers side speaker crackles at high notes
dash lights seem to turn on later after a few mins of driving and putting the lights on in the day

I'm more concerned with the driving feel, pedders said everything underside was fine with the $20 check. Just wondering why it feels **** compared to 3 months ago, I miss the spongy feel over road feel hahahaha :D

Update

Transmission fault update:
After three weeks of calling and asking for updates and getting no answers or promised calls back, I popped into shepp Holden at lunch Thursday.
Met yet another tech and I had to show the fault again in a drive. Noting before I even took him for a drive I had it out with him about the service and why the hell nothing has been done in a month since the fault was reported but had been promised the fault will be fixed 2 weeks ago.. Funny how he dodged the subject and just said if you don't show me the problem I can't help you.

Pissed off I showed him the fault, almost couldn't get it to grind and thump, luckily it did eventually.

Got a call that night. He apparently talked to melb Holden. And this is what he he kinda told me. As much as I can remember.

-Common fault with the earlier 5spd semi auto transmissions.
-Holden have been aware and have been "trying to rectify the issue"
-Holden have replaced tcms, transmissions, ecus and all the other electronic crap to try fix the issue
-in some cases they have replaced every part of the trans system making the problem even worse than before
-Holden have fixed the issue with the newer models by modifying the trans system and tcm and having the tcm have updatable software
-the newer model ves trans can't be put into my car as it is "different" different configuration and incompatible with the older models.
-older model ve TCM has software that can't be updated or upgraded. Newer models TCM can be.

-the cause is with the TCM and the torque convertor.
-unfixable, can only be reduced
-all ves with this trans have got it, some not as bad, some worser than others.
The issue happens all the way up to 90km and above those speeds it's not evident (that is false as I get it at 99km)

-The grinding noise is to do with the exhaust rubber mounts, holding the exuast too tight or something thus it's vibrating against some other metal part.
-can be fixed by destressing the rubber mounts, unbolting the exaust and letting it hang on the rubber bits for a while...??

The fluctuating revs, the thumping, the grinding is all caused by the communications with the TCM.

That is all I remember, he did describe it properly and detailed just too much to remember in a 30 min phone update.

He could be bullshitting I wouldn't a clue. But he knows I'm unhappy and if it's not fixed there's gonna be more trouble.

Cars booked in for a replacement TCM tues depending if the TCM arrives Monday.

-replacing the TCM or any other part of the trans may or may not fix the issue and could even make this worse.

My wonders are:
Why was there no recall if Holden have known of the issue since the build. 3 years??
Why haven't holden fixed the problem
Why can't my car receive a newer model part which has none of these problems.
What my rights are that I have been sold a ve with this known fault and it will never be able to be fixed.
Am I eligible for lemon car rights?

HAS ANYONE KNOWN ABOUT THIS OR EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM?

According to Holden melb technical the fault is evident in all these models of transmissions so has anyone had this with VE CALAIS,CALAIS V,SV6,SS??

-this issue has caused the performance to decrease, a lot of lag with acceleration.

- good that they are honouring the warranty at least..

About to give up and put up with it :(
I love my car but now it feels crap
Not happy.

Similar issues with my 2006 VE Calais. Sometimes if I give mine a real good thrashing on the Tullamarine Freeway on-ramp it actually holds the 2nd or 3rd gear. Not sure why thou. Only solution is to go active select and thrash it a little more :yahoo:

VERY RARELY has mine made a thump (small one at that - barely noticeable). Only ever noticed it when decelerating for speed humps, traffics lights etc.

Curiously thou have you tried disconnecting the battery for 30mins or so, reconnect, then take for a pussy footed cruise on the highway or something? Computers in cars learn all sorts of things from our driving habits these days and maybe its trying something it should be doing? Can't hurt to try.
