how can you tell if a car is pinging? like what noise does it make?

It will make like a metal rattling sound under load almost like a washer rattling loud.

Its very bad for the engine's health basically the engine is firing at the wrong time causing the piston to be forced down whilst it is still coming up.

thanx for that but my egr is already gone , i took it of when i put my extractors on and replaced it with a plate covering the hole, if any1 else has any suggestions for a bit more power i would appreciate your info

I've always likened pinging to a hollow metallic rattle. Like 2 bits of scaffolding banging together Only happens at high throttle and high gear, with the timing too far advanced.

Though my car tends to make a more higher pitched washer rattly noise too at high revs, which I've always assumed was pinging too.
