Who's engine is that from??

If you have a look at the pics further up in this thread you'll see when the seal is fitted as is in this pic the back of the crank thrust face is pushing the seal out. I'm not surprised that it failed really.

that first seal is the one to suit neoprene rear main cap for 202 253 and 308 the step on the cap is opposite direction to rope seal.you need the neoprene into rope seal grove conversion seal

Yea I tried fitting like the pic and the crank is way too tight to fit. I bought the felpro one yesterday and that one fits in the rope groove but when I put crank in, it won't come close to the crank. Probably 3 mm off.

when i had my new 355 built, my engine builders suggested that i use a neo seal rather than a rope one, by memory they machined the crank and used a chev one
